Cost savings and improved security for Korean entertainment giant Jeju Shinhwa World

A strong digital backbone supporting major growth

Jeju Shinhwa World is the largest complex resort in Asia. Located in the Jeju Myths and History Theme Park, the complex houses a number of major hotels, a casino, large-scale shopping and dining facilities, luxurious spas, conference facilities and more. An additional 1,500-plus condominiums and villas, cultural facilities and leisure and entertainment facilities are slated to open in 2019.

To support the complex’s long-term growth, Jeju Shinhwa World chose to implement Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops, a VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) solution providing both enhanced data security and improved working efficiency for staff. Further long-term benefits for the data- and security-conscious organization will include substantial cost savings and enhanced business continuity.

The first stage of the implementation saw the creation of the necessary data center infrastructure and a private cloud environment. Microsoft Office 365 was chosen to run on Microsoft Azure and connected with Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops to construct a hybrid cloudbased working environment. As a result, Jeju Shinhwa World can now store critical data securely at its internal data center, while at the same time utilize efficient external collaboration tools. Under the VDI environment, data is saved and controlled by the centralized server farm, not stored in the personal computers of employees. External accesses and employees’ unauthorized copying of data is prohibited.

Operational efficiency and cost saving

For Jeju Shinhwa World’s IT specialists, the Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops has also drastically improved the efficiency of tasks such as keeping track of new hires, replacing outdated hardware, installing new programs and upgrading systems.

Unlike other more rigid VDI environments, Jeju Shinhwa World’s VDI is designed for optimum flexibility.

The Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops allows employees to install useful apps that enable more efficient operation, for example. If working outside the company, employees only need access to virtual desktops.

Moreover, the Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops has vastly reduced the need to replace outdated PCs according to their physical lifecycles. Data security is also greatly enhanced by all work done on the VDI is saved at the company’s central server. This is particularly critical for Jeju Shinhwa World, which deals with highly sensitive customer data including accommodation records and use of its casino facilities.

“We are very pleased with the adoption of the Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops solution,” says Changsoo Kim, Senior IT Director of Jeju Shinhwa World, “which has enabled highly efficient IT management and is expected to bring cost savings.”
