Citrix Workspace app for Chrome 2101 - Tech Preview

Release Date: Dec 11, 2020

What's new in 2101

Improved webcam performance

·      In earlier versions, Citrix Workspace app for Chrome supported webcam redirection only for 32-bit applications. Starting with this release, Citrix Workspace app for Chrome supports webcam redirection for both 32-bit and 64-bit applications.

Configuring webcam by using the configuration.js file and the Google Admin Console

·      For Versions 2010 and earlier, configure the webcam redirection using the following path:

HTML5_CONFIG > appPrefs > chromeApp > nacl > video

·      For Versions 2101 and later, configure the webcam redirection using the following path:

HTML5_CONFIG -> features -> video

Note: We recommend that you use the `HTML5_CONFIG > features > video` path to configure webcam redirection. The other path continues to work for some time and will be removed in a future release.

Recommendations for webcam redirection

Set the Citrix Delivery Controller Audio Quality policy to Low or Medium. When using low-powered Chromebooks, audio lags might occur if you do not set the Audio Quality policy.

·      For best performance, we recommend using high-end Chromebooks and low-latency networks with good bandwidth connections to perform uploads and downloads.

·      When you use the speaker of a system during a video conference call, you might hear an echo. As a workaround, use a headset.

·      Set the following registry key on a VDA:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\HdxRealTime

Name:  OfferH264ToApp

Type: REG_DWORDValue: 1

Note: This setting applies to the current user setting. For new users, set the registry key through the Windows Group Policy Object (GPO) Editor.

Disclaimer

Caution! Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it.

Note: When any other application overlaps with the application window of the video conferencing call for a participant, all participants on the call might see a static video image for that participant.

Fixed issues 2101

·      Certain keyboard shortcuts such as CTRL+SHIFT+L, CTRL+SHIFT+3, and ALT + ‘+’  might fail to work in sessions running on a Chromebook device.

·      With this fix, keyboard shortcuts are configured with the sendAllKeys attribute:

HTML5_CONFIG > features > sendAllKeys

The sendAllKeys attribute defaults to true. To change the default, open the configuration.js file, add the sendAllKeys attribute, and set the attribute to false.[CVADHELP-16357]

·      When you launch a session from a Linux VDA through Citrix Workspace app for Chrome, the mouse cursor might not be rendered correctly within the session. For this fix to work, you must launch a session from Linux VDA 2012 or later. For more information, see Linux VDA bug ID  LNXVDA-9074. [RFHTMCRM-4437]

·      In scenarios where a launched application already exists, when you launch another application through session sharing, a connection dialog appears with a spinning circle. [RFHTMCRM-4580]

·      With session sharing enabled, when you attempt to launch a session through the HDX SDK for HTML5, the session might not receive any messages. The issue occurs with seamless sessions. [RFHTMCRM-4581]

·      In scenarios where a VDA is configured with a NVIDIA GPU, with hardware encoding enabled, a black screen might appear when the session runs in full-screen mode. Also, videos might not render when the selective H.264 graphic mode is enabled through For actively changing regions policy. [RFHTMCRM-4589]

Known issues in  2101

·      When there is video playback in parallel with the video conferencing call, the webcam video might freeze. As a workaround, turn the webcam off and back on within the conferencing app.

·      A webcam video might not appear during an application launch. This error message appears: no webcam device available

As a workaround, log off from the session and log back on

When you move a video conferencing app during a call, the session might display artifacts that obscure screen content and other portions of the display.

How to access the Tech preview app:

·      This app can currently only be accessed via Chrome web store.

·      You need to whitelist the app at Storefront level to test it.

Steps to whitelist app in the storefront:

1.    On the StoreFront server, use a text editor to open the web.config file for the Receiver for Web site, which is typically located in the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Citrix\storenameWeb directory, where storename is the name specified for the store when it was created.

2.    Locate the following element in the file. <html5 ... chromeAppOrigins="chrome-extension://haiffjcadagjlijoggckpgfnoeiflnem" ... />

3.    Change the value of the chromeAppOrigins attribute to chrome extension://haiffjcadagjlijoggckpgfnoeiflnem|chrome-extension://lbfgjakkeeccemhonnolnmglmfmccaag where lbfgjakkeeccemhonnolnmglmfmccaag– is the appID for the private application. This should whitelist the application in the storefront.

Note: If you are a Citrix Cloud/Workspace platform customer, you do not need to whitelist the app its already whitelisted.
