“What does Citrix do?”

It’s a question we hear a lot, and it’s not always an easy one to answer, especially if you have to explain it to a 3-year-old (or to someone who doesn’t work in IT). Technical details aside, I’ve found the best approach is to find a way to make it relatable. In the case of my 3-year-old, I asked:

“If Mommy pauses Bubble Guppies (a surprisingly entertaining musical series about preschool merpeople and their pets) in the living room and you went to your room to watch on your iPad, would you have to start the episode over?” She quickly responded with, “No, I would just press the triangle (play button), and it would play.”

My preschooler expects her interaction with technology to be easy and uninterrupted regardless of location or device. Adults in the workforce want that same experience with technology they need to do their jobs.

An office is just one of the places people work today. Many professionals do their jobs from multiple locations, like a journalist who’s out chasing stories or a doctor who’s visiting patients at the hospital. Citrix helps those people stay connected to the things and people they need to do their job, no matter where they are.

They don’t have to go back and forth to their office every time they need to file a story or grab a patient’s medical record. They have everything they need at their fingertips — saving them time, helping them be more productive, and making their jobs easier.

I love the way one of our customers, Markus Marksteiner, group CTO of Baloise Group, puts it: “You have your workplace with you, in your pocket. Even if you leave the office and shut down your session, you start working again on the train, and the cursor is in the same position as you left it in the office. This is the future. This is how it should work.”

So How Does Citrix Work?

Diving a bit deeper, our solutions combine digital workspace and networking technologies to provide access to the things people need to get work done.

On the frontend, people have one place to safely access all their apps, desktops, files, and services from any of their devices and from any location. And on the backend, IT has a simple, unified platform to manage, monitor, and oversee everything.

Digital Workspace

What was once physical is now digital. What you once had to go into an office to do, you can now do anywhere with a Citrix digital workspace. It gives people access to all the apps they use for work — web, virtual, mobile, and SaaS — from one easy-to-use portal on any of their devices, from wherever they need to work. And because the entire workspace is centralized, IT can see everything that’s going on and have a simple way to manage and control it all.

Also, since such a big part of work is making and sharing new documents, designs, and videos, Citrix Content Collaboration lets everyone in an organization easily store the things they make in a safe, shared place. And when someone has an idea for how to use these files or improve them, our technology records all their ideas and shares the feedback with the original maker.

Networking

Citrix Networking solutions make the connections between people and their digital workspace possible. It doesn’t matter where their apps and files live, whether in a data center at company headquarters or in the cloud — our networking technology makes sure that people can connect to what they need and have the best possible experience. This means their devices can access all the right apps without delays or problems, and the IT team can manage everything from a single, central platform.

Work Isn’t Just a Place You Go

It’s something you do. And Citrix technology lets you define what that looks like. When you have the freedom to choose your work style, you can do your best work — anytime, anywhere, and on any device.
