We’re excited to share that one of the more popular features in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops is now available for Citrix DaaS. General availability is here for Citrix Policy Modeling! You can use Policy Modeling to simulate policy evaluation for easy testing and troubleshooting. This scenario-based feature allows administrators to visualize which policies and settings apply under the circumstances you specify. With the new Policy Modeling feature, the Policies node gives admins a one-stop shop for managing your organization’s policy configurations and ensuring successful outcomes for experience and security.

What is Policy Modeling?

Admins can quickly simulate end-user session launches to understand which policies are currently applying based on the modeling scenario. Specify users, computers, and filters in the wizard and you will receive an easily exportable Resultant Set of Policies (RSoP). Within a policy, click into any setting for a helpful explanation of why it is or is not applied.

What’s New?

  • Simplified wizard for specifying users, computers, and filter evidence
  • Redesigned and reformatted results page
  • Easily view details by selecting individual settings within the results
  • Export modeling results to JSON or HTML

When should I model policies?

You should model policies when you are:

  • Creating new policies: Once a new policy is created, you can leverage policy modeling to ensure the right settings are applied to users who should receive the new policy.
  • Making changes: Given the vast security and user experience implications of policies, changing a setting, filter, or policy priority can be a high-stakes procedure. Use policy modeling to ensure that changes are reflected as expected.
  • Evaluating conflicts: When multiple policies have the same settings, there is potential for conflicts to occur. Use policy modeling to verify that the conflict is evaluated correctly.
  • Troubleshooting: Gain the perspective of any user in your environment by simulating their scenario. Search for any extra or missing settings and view details to inform changes. Re-run modeling to confirm that issues are fixed.
  • Leaving a paper trail: Easily export the results to JSON or HTML formats for safekeeping. This way, you can look back at modeling results from days, weeks, or months ago to see what has changed over time.
