I’ve been with Citrix for more than 12 years. For about the first six years, I went into the Santa Clara office daily. But then I moved to the Sacramento area and have spent the last six years of my #CitrixLife working from home. With so many people transitioning to working outside the office, I started thinking about some of the things that were important to me as I moved to a remote working environment.
As a technology company that powers a better way to work, Citrix is all about enhancing my employee engagement, experience, and productivity. So, for me, the technology I’m using is critical. My digital workspace, powered by Citrix Workspace, is secure, with convenient access to all my apps and data regardless of the device I use. No matter whether I’m working in the office or remote, I’m empowered to do my best work.
As I shifted how I worked, I also put a lot of thought into my physical workspace — my home office. It was important for me to be in an environment where I felt creative. Nostalgia took me back to what I would tell my parents when they asked what I wanted to do when I grow up — an architect. Now, all grown up working in alliance marketing for a technology company (I course corrected once I found out how much schooling was required to be an architect), I used that former career goal as inspiration for my workspace to get my marketing creativity juices flowing.

So, how are you inspired to do your best work?
I wanted to highlight a different perspective on inspiration to do your best work. There’s a lot of value in allowing employees to pursue passion projects outside their daily work. One of Citrix’s strategic alliance partners, Google, famously lets its teams use 20 percent of their time to pursue personal projects.
Richard Achee, global technology partnership lead at Google Chrome Enterprise, shares in this podcast his experience with his passion project — Python MC — a free introduction to computer programming in Python, ideally suited for middle school to high school students. Python MC provides access to computer science education to underserved communities. It is called Python MC because they use the movement and music to teach students computer programming concepts. Within the first 10 minutes of the first workshop, students start writing Python code to select beats and vocals and set effects and remix their own music tracks with EarSketch, a free, online digital audio workstation (DAW) that uses Python to create musical compositions.
We all find inspiration in different places — our physical surroundings, the technology we use, or passion projects like the ones developed as part of Google’s program. The digital worker of today, whether working at home or in the office (and whether by choice or circumstance), can thrive and be inspired to do their best work.
