Everyone seems to have a major focus on mobile devices and virtual machines, but the physical desktop PC will not go away. Many of us continue to use one for our day-to-day work. The physical desktop PC is critical to many, and there are ways to make it better. A physical desktop PC ties the user to the PC’s physical location, and, sometimes, physical locality is of major importance. Especially for those of us experiencing a Minnesota winter.

Minnesota is having the snowiest February since the 1880s (when snowfall totals were first recorded). We’ve had the coldest temperatures (-31° F air temperature and -60° F wind chills) in more than 30 years. Schools have been cancelled over and over again. Driving to a physical location can be dangerous and costly, especially if your car slides sideways though an intersection.

So why not allow users to temporarily work remotely?

Why not provide remote access to a physical PC without a full VDI deployment?

And why don’t we look at making the traditional physical PC better?

In Episode 3 of the Workspace Master Class, we will:

  • Include the physical PC
  • Show how to integrate the physical PC with the user’s workspace experience
  • Show how to centrally manage the physical PC.
