At Citrix, our focus has always been on striking a balance between security and a great user experience — for any user, on any device, with any application. We had this focus in mind when we created Citrix Enterprise Browser, which radically changes the way users access web and SaaS applications with Citrix Workspace.

What is the Citrix Enterprise Browser?

The new Citrix Enterprise Browser is the first of its kind, focusing on security as a transparent layer on top of an enhanced user experience. It is a Chromium-based browser that has been customized to the Citrix experience, is integrated with the Citrix Workspace app, and provides all the functionalities of a native browsing solution to the end user’s work environment.

In addition, this browser also leverages the powerful capabilities of Citrix Secure Access, our cloud-delivered zero trust solution. Launching any internally hosted web application or a SaaS app with security policies from within Citrix Workspace will trigger the Citrix Enterprise Browser.

Let’s take a closer look at the two main pillars of this solution — Experience and Security.

Experience

Citrix Enterprise Browser combines the native capabilities of a Chromium-based browser with Citrix Cloud services, providing a state-of-the-art user experience for all enterprise use cases. From an experience perspective, Citrix Enterprise Browser helps enforce security policies and enables a seamless user experience for:

  • Seamless VPN-less access to internally hosted web applications
  • Single-sign on support for web and SaaS apps launched with the Citrix Workspace app
  • Microphone and webcam support for collaborating via web conferencing apps
  • Support for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) with consistent experience and security policies
  • Seamless support for proxy authentication (Windows only)
  • Download and bookmark management
  • Dark mode support
  • Tabbed and windowed browsing, with support for tab grouping and shortcuts

A key functionality is transparent access to applications hosted in an organization’s datacenter, without requiring special configurations for the end user. The browsing experience is the same — whether you’re connecting to an internal enterprise app, or an external cloud SaaS app.

Security Policies

Browsing the internet poses another risk to enterprises — 80 percent of enterprise attacks are exploiting vulnerabilities in websites, browsers, and browser plug-ins.

Securing the attack surface is paramount, and Citrix Enterprise Browser integrates with Citrix Secure Private Access and is fully validated for Citrix Secure Internet Access. This combination unlocks zero trust network access (ZTNA) and protects users against threats — with the simplicity and scale of a single solution and provides a seamless and secure browsing experience for the end users

Additionally, applications configured via Citrix Secure Private Access have the following set of security policies and controls:

  • Watermark application
  • Clipboard restriction
  • Printing restriction
  • File download restriction
  • App protection policies including
    • Anti-keylogging to prevent hijacking of sensitive data
    • Anti-screen capture against malicious software as well as accidental screen sharing
Watermark and clipboard restriction

These admin-configured security policies are applied on a per app and tab basis, providing flexibility in how security is implemented. For example, an IT-sanctioned sensitive app on tab “A” has a watermark, while a non-IT-sanctioned website on tab “B”  does not have the same security policy applied. The image above shows both the watermark and the clipboard-access restrictions.

With Citrix Workspace, we dramatically enhance security, data-loss prevention, and productivity for end users of SaaS and web applications. The Citrix Enterprise Browser is a critical component that enables organizations to protect end users while improving the overall user experience.
