While it may not have seemed critical at the beginning of 2020, business continuity planning (BCP) has become a top priority for organizations everywhere. Developing a BCP strategy ensures employees are secure, engaged, and productive, whether you’re facing a weather, geopolitical, or health and safety event. The first step in many BCPs is to determine how to keep employees productive by providing them with access to their mission-critical apps and files. The next (and equally as important) step is to keep the data in those apps and files secure.
A complication in the security equation, though, is that many of the endpoints employees will use to access their corporate resource are unmanaged. This creates risk because IT has no insight into the health of the device being used or the threats they can introduce. One risk that must be mitigated when employees use their personal devices for work is malware. Two of the most dangerous types are keylogging and screen shot malware, which can be used to both exfiltrate and harvest sensitive information like user credentials or personally identifiable information.
A less malicious but equally dangerous risk is accidental screen sharing. The line between personal and work usage on devices has been blurred, so it’s become common for employees to move from working on a business app to a virtual hangout with friends or family on that device. In these scenarios, accidental screen sharing of sensitive data in the business app could result in significant issues, especially for those in highly regulated industries.
In January, we released App Protection as an add-on for on-premises Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. Today, we’re pleased to announce the inclusion of App Protection for Citrix Workspace Premium Plus customers with hybrid rights.
App Protection for Workspace Premium Plus with hybrid rights
Many customers are making the transition from an on-prem Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops deployment to the cloud. To ease the transition, Citrix introduced hybrid rights for those making the move. Security shouldn’t take a back seat during this period, so we’re including App Protection for on-premises Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops to Workspace Premium Plus customers with hybrid rights. Existing Workspace Premium Plus with hybrid rights customers are also auto-entitled to App Protection at no extra cost and can apply app protection policies immediately.
App Protection licenses for existing Workspace Premium Plus customers with hybrid rights are now available in your MyCitrix account. To access your licenses, please navigate to your Citrix account and log in with your credentials. Once authenticated, click “All Licensing Tools (Legacy).”
Then, click on the “Active and Allocate Licenses” tab at the top of the navigation bar. Sort by “Order Date” to bring the newest licenses to the top of the list. Once sorted, look for the “App Protection Policies” license. To learn more about implementing App Protection, please visit the Citrix Tech Zone.
