Citrix and Google are doubling down on our efforts to provide you with innovative, unique technologies that power IT modernization and remote work. Today we’re excited to share some of the ways Citrix is working with Google Cloud to provide you with flexible and secure remote work solutions the market needs .

Enabling DaaS with Citrix and Google Cloud

Migrating to the cloud or implementing an entirely new DaaS strategy can be intimidating, but Citrix and Google Cloud are here to help, every step of the way. We’re making it even easier for you to power your remote work strategy with Google Cloud — from purchasing to deploying to managing your hybrid-cloud environments.

Turnkey, fully-managed Citrix DaaS on Google Cloud

For organizations that are looking to scale and secure their remote workforce without the IT responsibility, Citrix and Google are working closely as part of our new expanded partnership to develop a fully-managed and integrated DaaS solution on Google Cloud. With just a few clicks, you will be able to provision and deploy virtual apps and desktops to employees on Google Cloud, without separately obtaining your own Google Cloud subscription or additional IT resources. Citrix and Google will also co-develop a new, integrated control plane, making it easier than ever to monitor and provision these desktops to users.

This partnership will leverage Google Cloud’s cloud-native services and backbone network using advanced software-defined networking and edge caching services to deliver the fastest and consistent experience, transactional simplicity, and high performing DaaS.

Coming Soon: Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Service with Google Cloud control plane

While we work to develop this fully-managed DaaS solution, a first step of this strategic partnership will be a Citrix solution with a purpose-built management plane in Google Cloud, which will be available for preview in the next few months. Additionally, if you’re a Google Cloud subscriber, you will soon be able to purchase our Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service with the Google Cloud-based control plane in the Google Cloud Marketplace.

Seamless migrations to Google Cloud with Citrix

Cloud migrations can get a bit bumpy, but Citrix and Google are working to provide you with a smooth path to success with new enablement resources and technical capabilities. Coming soon, you’ll be able to leverage our new migration and deployment guides for step-by-step guidance on your journey to Google Cloud with Citrix.  Stay tuned to our Citrix Tech Zone page for the latest helpful resources.

Citrix is also continuing to expand our Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service capabilities on Google Cloud for a smoother, more integrated experience. Here are some examples of recently-released capabilities:

  • Support for Google Cloud Customer Managed Encryption Keys (CMEK): Citrix supports Google’s CMEK with MCS catalogs to provide greater control over keys used to encrypt data within a Google Cloud project.
  • App Layering support: The App Layering Appliance (or ELM) is now deployable in Google Cloud, and this supports elastic and user layers.
  • Shielded virtual machines support: Admins can now provision shielded virtual machines on Google Cloud. This offers a higher level of security against remote attacks, privilege escalation and malicious insiders.
  • MCS Support for suspending and resuming VMs (preview): Admins now have the capability to suspend and resume VMs in Google Cloud by leveraging MCS. This capability helps organizations reduce costs without sacrificing user experience.
  • Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS) for Google Cloud (coming soon to preview): rapidly provision hundreds or thousands of Google Cloud-hosted VMs from a single shared golden image, on-demand.
  • Image Portability for Google Cloud (preview): Automatically transforms an on-premises image for Google Cloud deployments, so IT only needs to manage a single base image for all both resource locations

Of course, if we’re discussing smooth transitions, we can’t forget about the network. The Citrix SD-WAN instance on Google Cloud supports high availability (HA), high throughput, and pay-as-you-go (PAYG) licensing. It optimizes access to all workloads on Google Cloud, both from branch locations and from home offices. With this integration, businesses can also leverage Google’s powerful backbone network to inter-connect different regions or access remote workloads. Combined with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, you can achieve enhanced resiliency, faster performance, and increased flexibility as you migrate these workloads to Google Cloud. Learn more.

Powering Remote Work with Citrix and Chrome OS

In addition to the above enhancements, Citrix Workspace app and Citrix Secure Internet Access combined with Chrome OS can provide employees with an even more seamless access to any type of application. This is critical for extended security capabilities to protect against internet threats – both inside and outside of the Citrix Workspace.

The Citrix and Google Cloud teams have been hard at work innovating and developing joint solutions to power hybrid cloud and hybrid work — but this is just the start.
