Google Chrome comes to Citrix UniconOS, unlocking enterprise browser capabilities
Google Chrome is now available for download through the Citrix portal and can run natively on Citrix UniconOS (formerly eLux), Citrix's secure, immutable endpoint operating system.
With Citrix SecurAccess with Chrome Enterprise configured, users can enable enterprise browser capabilities by signing in to a managed Chrome profile using their corporate credentials. Organizations gain zero trust access, AI security controls, and data loss prevention in the browser employees already use.
Delivering security where work gets done
For many employees, work starts and ends in the browser. Business applications, SaaS services, internal web apps, and increasingly AI tools are all accessed through a browser window. Because the browser is the primary gateway to corporate data, applying robust, consistent security protections is essential to keeping sensitive information safe.
Meanwhile, IT teams are moving users from Windows to lightweight operating systems to cut costs and streamline management. The challenge is ensuring browser security follows the user during that transition. Often, policies get rebuilt platform by platform, and data protection stops at the edge of the browser window, leaving security teams with blind spots.
IT teams no longer need to choose between a lightweight endpoint and a secure browser. Chrome now runs natively on Citrix UniconOS. Organizations can provide employees with the browser they already know, apply supported Chrome Enterprise policies where centralized management is required, and add Citrix security and access capabilities for use cases that need greater protection.
"Enterprises standardize on Chrome because it's where work gets done. By bringing the power of Chrome to Citrix and UniconOS deployments, organizations give their employees the browser they know, creating an endpoint their security teams can manage with ease." - Hakan Kilic, Group Product Manager, Chrome Enterprise
Bringing the browser users love to UniconOS
As organizations evaluate endpoint strategies, one requirement remains constant: users want the browser they already know.
Many organizations have spent years building their Chrome Enterprise environment, configuring policies, deploying extensions, and establishing governance. Since users are familiar with Chrome and applications are already optimized for it, that investment should not have to be rebuilt simply because the underlying endpoint changes.
Now that Chrome runs natively on Citrix UniconOS, organizations can carry their existing browser strategy across to secure endpoints, giving employees the exact browser experience they love while IT maintains centralized management. There is no need to rely on VDI simply to deliver a managed browser, while Citrix Workspace remains ready for applications that still require virtualization.
Enterprise browser security through Citrix SecurAccess with Chrome Enterprise
Not every user, application, or workflow requires the same level of browser management and protection.
Organizations can use Google Chrome as a familiar native browser on Citrix UniconOS. Where centralized management is needed, they can apply supported Chrome Enterprise policies and extensions. For users accessing private applications or sensitive corporate data, Citrix SecurAccess with Chrome Enterprise adds another layer of protection. It brings integrated zero trust network access (ZTNA) and AI security controls directly into Chrome. The result goes beyond traditional browser management with:
- Zero trust access to private applications
- AI security controls
- Context-aware access controls
- Real-time data loss prevention
- Download and clipboard protection
- Dynamic watermarking
- Unified identity and policy enforcement
- Seamless single sign-on
Organizations can activate enterprise-grade browser security directly within Chrome on Citrix UniconOS. That gives them a simpler path to securing browser-based work on supported devices.
"Security teams have long struggled to apply consistent security controls to browser-based work without disrupting users. By bringing Zero Trust access, AI security controls, and data protection directly into Chrome, organizations can better protect data while preserving the experience employees already know." - Abhilash Verma, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Security, Citrix
More value from the Citrix platform
Organizations do not need separate solutions for secure endpoints, browser security, and application delivery.
Citrix brings these capabilities together in a single platform:
- Citrix UniconOS as the secure endpoint
- Google Chrome as the native browser experience
- Citrix SecurAccess with Chrome Enterprise for zero trust access, AI security, and data loss prevention
- Citrix DaaS for virtual applications and desktops
Together, these technologies help organizations support browser-based work, AI applications, private applications, and traditional enterprise workloads through a consistent endpoint and security strategy.
"For years, organizations have had to choose between modern browser-based work and traditional virtual application delivery. Bringing Google Chrome to Citrix UniconOS allows customers to support both from the same secure, immutable endpoint, combining the world's leading browser with the industry's leading DaaS platform." - Philipp Benkler, Vice President and General Manager, Citrix UniconOS
Together, these technologies help organizations simplify endpoint strategy while giving employees access to the applications they need, through the delivery model that makes the most sense.
