Willis Towers Watson and the new world of work

Willis Towers Watson is a leading global advisory, broking and solutions company that helps clients around the world turn risk into a path for growth. With roots dating to 1828, Willis Towers Watson has 40,000 employees serving more than 140 countries.

The company designs and delivers solutions that manage risk, optimize benefits, cultivate talent and expand the power of capital to protect and strengthen institutions and individuals. This unique perspective focuses on the critical intersections between talent, assets and ideas — a dynamic formula that drives business performance.

As part of their End User Computing transformation program, Willis Towers Watson are delivering centralised application and desktop virtualisation services through a solution referred to internally as “Flexible Provisioning”.

“Although Willis Towers Watson have leveraged Citrix technology for many years,” explains Andy Champion, Head of Workplace Technology Engineering at Willis Towers Watson, “the new ‘Flexible Provisioning (Flex)’ service will help drive significant operational efficiencies for the growing organization through enhanced information security, reduced business risk, and improved business continuity while improving both employee and business productivity.”

“The new cloud enabled service will be aligned to individual roles and workstyles and will ultimately provide the technological agility to allow Willis Towers Watson to adapt and ‘Flex’ to future business demand.”

In addition to the extensive use of Citrix technology for internal consumption, Willis Towers Watson has also developed a cloud based client facing solution within its Insurance Technology business to support a portfolio of risk and financial management software which is based largely on the “Flex” design.

“Cloud is essential for innovation and will change the way many businesses are run,” Stephen Hollands, Senior Director, Insurance Technology explains. “More and more capabilities and technologies are moving to the cloud, especially as insurers are increasingly able to migrate their legacy systems on to the cloud. Having the ability to provide our analytical and modelling software within a flexible Citrix Workspace coupled, in the Azure cloud, to the mass of data and scalable compute, drives ever more detailed analysis, delivering what insurers require in a landscape of increasing regulatory demand.”
