Here at Citrix, we’ve been keeping a close eye on the betas of the new macOS, Big Sur, and I know many of you have been, too. Previewed at the 2020 Worldwide Developers Conference in June, macOS Big Sur is the next update to Apple’s macOS operating system and comes with the latest Safari version 14.
For those eager to start testing your Citrix environments on this new OS, we have good news. With the release of Citrix Workspace app 2009 for Mac and the latest version of the Citrix Workspace app 2009 for HTML5 on Safari, you can test the latest macOS Big Sur beta 8 in your development environments!
Let’s look at things you should keep in mind if you leverage the native Citrix Workspace app for Mac or if you implement Citrix Workspace app for HTML5 on Safari.
Citrix Workspace app for Mac
We know that many admins rely on testing in their development environments before pushing a large change out to their users. Because the Citrix Workspace app 2009 for Mac is developed to support the beta versions of Big Sur, there is no need to be caught off guard by this new OS change. The 2009 release also includes changes in USB redirection, so check out this blog post to get the latest updates on what has shifted.
And because the OS is in beta, there are a few known issues to be mindful of when testing with the new Citrix Workspace app:
- In a cloud deployment, published desktops might launch with a mismatch in background color. The issue occurs intermittently on some macOS Big Sur Beta versions.
- The installer icon for Citrix Workspace app for Mac might be missing when you open the CitrixWorkspaceApp.dmg file. The issue occurs intermittently on some macOS Big Sur Beta versions.
It is also important to note that Citrix Workspace app 2009 for Mac is only supported on macOS Catalina (10.15).
Citrix Workspace app for HTML5 on Safari
We have also been testing the latest beta for the new Safari browser version 14 on the new OS. We have released a new version of Citrix Workspace app 2009 for HTML5 that is compatible with the changes in Safari that are part of macOS Big Sur beta 8.
For organizations leveraging the Citrix Workspace app for HTML5 in an on-prem environment, it is important to roll out an update to this Workspace app version to prevent issues on Safari. For organizations leveraging the cloud, we have already updated this version so you can seamlessly upgrade to macOS Big Sur on your end devices and use Citrix Workspace app for HTML5 with the new Safari browser. Note: If you are facing issues with launching Citrix sessions through Citrix Workspace app for HTML5, make sure the auto-popup is turned ON for the browser.
