About Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops install and upgrade metrics
The anonymous user experience metrics gathered by Citrix will provide us with a better understanding of how Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops deployments are installed, upgraded, configured or removed. This information will be used to improve quality, reliability and performance of the product.
Frequently asked questions
How does this feature work?
The Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops installers collect anonymous experience metrics each time the installers are launched. This functionality is enabled by default.
In XenApp and XenDesktop 7.11, the installers’ graphical interface contains a check box (selected by default).
In later Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops versions, there is no check box; you can change the default action in PowerShell or the registry.
Can I view the data before it is sent?
When the functionality is enabled, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops installers write logs to a temporary location, %ProgramData%\Citrix\CTQs\. Once the user exits the installer, logs are securely sent to Citrix via HTTPS and deleted from the temporary location. Using a JSON viewer, logs can be viewed before they are sent to Citrix by navigating to %ProgramData%\Citrix\CTQs\ before exiting the Citrix Virtual Apps or Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops installer.
Will the data collected be anonymized?
Yes, metrics sent to Citrix do not contain customer identifiable information.
How does Citrix protect the privacy of the information?
- We do not collect any personally identifiable information.
- We use a random identifier created at install time, which tracks data transfers over time.
- We do not record information such as IP addresses, server names, or domain names.
- All data is sent using HTTPS directly to Citrix servers – we do not use third party data hosting services.
- All data is secured on Citrix servers and is accessible only by authorized individuals.
What data does Citrix collect?
We collect basic information about how our product is installed, such as which components were installed, the number of restarts it took to complete the installation, the total time it took to complete the installation, plus the operating system, language, and version of the product installed. We use the information to measure our product performance, create solutions to common problems, and improve the experience.
Will I be contacted by Citrix if I send anonymous installation experience metrics to Citrix?
