What’s new in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops

The latest updates to Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops extend our leadership in the virtualization market scape by reducing bandwidth consumption, improving the user experience, and extending administrative flexibility and choice. Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 7 1909 delivers numerous industry-first user experience innovations. This new release delivers updates for customers on System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM), enhancements to Session Recording and updates for customers running Linux VDA. We’ve also introduced new admin tools for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service customers, such as improved control to Citrix Cloud Connectors, on-premises License Server Insights, as well as the new ability to obtain device information in the License and Usage page of the Citrix Cloud console.

Citrix optimization for Microsoft Teams

Citrix was the first in the industry to deliver a solution for optimizing web-based Microsoft Teams in a virtual environment. Now we are offering a fully native, fully-featured Microsoft Teams experience within Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 7 1906. To ensure the best possible user experience of a virtualized instance of Teams, Citrix optimizes the delivery of voice, video and telephony features of a fully native Microsoft Teams client within a virtualized environment. Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops maximizes server scalability by redirecting multi-media capabilities to the client for a high-performance user experience.

New Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops versioning

In late 2018, Citrix moved to a new versioning scheme to make it easier for customers to determine when the version was released. The “7” ensures platform versioning consistency, indicating that this is the same industry-leading platform for app and desktop virtualization as the previous XenApp and XenDesktop 7.x releases. The “1811” represents the actual version. This new numbering strategy is very similar in nature to Microsoft’s versioning strategy - the last four numbers make it easy to quickly determine when the version was released as it is represented by year and month (YYMM format).
