The challenge: Securing mobile access to all business data

Mazars needed secure mobile access for employees, to the company’s centrally hosted desktop environment via laptops from both internal and external locations. Mazars has many mobile employees that work at clients’ locations or at other locations.
In this environment it is important that no sensitive company information could be lost or stolen out in the field.

“More and more, we need to exchange data files with clients in a secure way. We used all kinds of tools and looked for a solution to standardize and simplify data exchange, with ease of use as most important requirement,” says Frank Keessen, IT director at Mazars. “We needed a secure solution that we can fully control ourselves.”

The solution: Using Citrix ShareFile to safely exchange data with clients

Mazars compared several solutions for securely exchanging data with clients. Citrix ShareFile fit the bill as the best solution for the company’s needs. “An important reason for us to go with Citrix was the ability to keep all data on premises and avoid the public cloud,” Keessen says. “The solution is also very easy to use for our clients, and very secure.”

Along with help from IT infrastructure provider PQR, a Citrix Platinum Solution Advisor, Mazars implemented the Citrix solution in its internal data center. Citrix NetScaler delivers remote access, combined with a solution for strong authentication.

Reducing the workload on the help desk by 60 percent

Previously, Mazars’ IT help desk was involved in the exchange of every file—a very time-consuming activity. Keessen says, “With Citrix ShareFile as our standard solution, the pressure on the help desk for providing access to client data, dropped by 60 percent.

Indirectly, ShareFile yielded us further gains because the overall management effort of the Citrix solution is significantly reduced, and we can spend valuable time on activities that focus on the business rather than on IT-infrastructure. ShareFile just works with almost no maintenance effort.”

Enabling secure, fast data exchange with clients

In an era where people work 24/7 and access information digitally, an efficient method to exchange files is crucial. “Our people require a lot of client records and make financial extracts from accounts and procedures. With ShareFile, clients encrypt and send their files simply, via an upload link,” says Keessen. “Our clients trust us to securely store the sensitive data internally, so ShareFile is set up as a private-cloud solution, in combination with our SAN. We transfer terabytes of encrypted information each month. NetScaler and ShareFile ensure that it operates reliably and fast.”

Providing hosting and load-balancing for business apps

As a financial services provider, it is very important for Mazars to ensure smooth, secure control over data, as well as compliance. The company provides all hosted workspaces using NetScaler— both internally and for the employees who visit clients at their location. . In addition to secure remote access, Mazars uses NetScaler for data exchange with clients using ShareFile.

Keessen says, “NetScaler is also used for load-balancing SharePoint, Exchange, and line-of-business applications. We also host business apps for clients, such as a payroll system and Accountview. We’ve thus extended our business as a financial services provider with a SaaS [Software as a Service] provider role. The performance of NetScaler is excellent; it handles all of this easily.”
