Capio has over 11,000 employees and operates medical care in five European countries. In Sweden, this consists of acute care hospitals, three local hospitals, more than 20 specialist clinics and over 70 health centers. IT infrastructure at health centers can be operated either by Capio, or by the local council. Health centers are located in the Capio Proximity Care business area.
With operations in 72 health centers in 12 counties, with a variety of IT environments, there was a challenge in ensuring that the company could best reach the business managers looking at the health centers, regardless of what local infrastructure was built.
"We wanted a standardized solution that ensures our employees access to data and systems in a simple and secure manner regardless of the IT environment at the local health center," says Daniel Olsson, Deputy Business Director at Capio Proximity Care. To have a truly mobile solution is of great importance. The goal is for all relevant company information to be available all the time, wherever you are.
Capio Proximity Care turned to consulting company Xenit, who has been a partner for five years, and who assists Capio including the running of its systems for telecommuting.
"In early 2013 we started with Capio Proximity Care to explore how the company can share information to business managers at health centers. Both because of its intuitive interface and a strong desire from the organization, we relatively quickly came to the conclusion of investing in iPads," says Linus Lindstrom, senior consultant at Xenit.
In April, a pilot project started with a small selected project team of sixteen people. This was successful and expanded, and it was then decided to run quickly in all health centers.
Using their iPads, business managers can now take note of the financial reports and other financial data, as well as connect to Capio's core business systems. With the application Citrix Worx Home users go through an encrypted connection access to Windows, Web and iPadapplikationer. The files are stored in the secure cloud service, Citrix Share File, where employees can, for example, access their Office documents and reports.
The system is managed by Xenit, which also manages the user support. To launch an iPad for the first time takes no more than a few minutes, then all applications are set and ready for use. To administer devices and applications Citrix XenMobile is used.
"It's very much about removing and adding new users, and making new resources available on the devices. If someone loses their iPad, we can quickly lock the device, track the GPS, or if necessary, remotely delete," says Linus Lindstrom.
With a mobile device, business managers can take part in company business wherever it suits them - at work, on the train or at home on the couch.
"Our goal is that business managers can focus more on managing the business, and less on administration," said Daniel Olsson.
He says that Capio has not restricted the use of surf plates; if they also want to use their iPad outside of work, it is okay.
"If you use Facebook or any other specific app, we have nothing against it. On the contrary, I think it increases the habit of using the iPad, and the desire to have it with you."
Today, you can not use the iPad to access any level of patient data but, with the high security that Citrix XenMobile permits, that is something Capio is watching.
"We are looking at opportunities where doctors and other health professionals can also use the iPads for clinical support. This may involve, for example, images or text, but it is as yet at the planning stage,"said Mr Olsson.
