Founded in 2004, Avea is one of the leading mobile communications companies in Turkey. The organization employs 3000 workers to serve 14,5 million customers. By providing a next-generation network that serves approximately 98 percent of the Turkish population with innovative, affordable offerings, Avea strives to become the country’s preferred mobile service provider. The company has roaming agreements with 677 operators in more than 205 countries, and it continues investing in technology and infrastructure to provide optimum service to customers.
In the past two years, many of Avea’s employees began using personally owned mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones to access the corporate network. The security and administration challenges of managing these devices were beginning to overwhelm the company’s IT staff. Avea needed a mobile device management solution that would protect sensitive corporate data and applications from unauthorized access, automate device updates, and protect devices from loss. “In our business, as mobility becomes dominant, security is more important than ever before,” says Alper Arpacıoğlu, Enterprise IT Senior Manager at Avea.
After researching leading mobile device management solutions, Avea selected Citrix XenMobile for its advanced security, inventory, and product lifecycle management and centralized management features. Citrix industry leadership also gave Avea confidence that the solution would keep pace with changing technologies. Local partner Sentra Bilgi Teknolojileri completed the deployment within three months, providing on-site support with an error-free implementation. Today, Avea’s IT team uses XenMobile to manage and secure 2700 mobile devices.
Avea uses Citrix XenMobile to protect data and applications accessed by users of Apple iOS, Android and Blackberry smartphones and tablets. . XenMobile supports critical security features such as firewalls and certificates, and access blocking for incorrect passwords. “When a user loses a phone, we can remotely lock it and wipe the data,” says Önder Ünal, Enterprise IT Client Services Specialist. “Every company that cares about protecting data, applications and IT assets can benefit from using XenMobile.”
XenMobile helps Avea’s IT staff streamline the management and administration of users’ mobile devices. A central management console helps administrators gain a clear view of all devices from a single intuitive interface. From this console, IT staff can use policy-based group settings to automate the deployment of new devices onto the network. The IT team can assign security and access settings to users based on those established for employees in the same group or at the same level. Administrators can remotely transmit new applications and application updates and troubleshoot problems reported by users, without physically accessing the device.
As employees increasingly used their Android and iOS devices to access the network, Avea’s IT department needed to find a safe way to support the company’s evolving bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policy. “We realized that people were storing data on their mobile devices, and we knew it was time to rethink about mobile security,” says Erdem Bilim, Enterprise IT Support Manager. “By integrating all processes handled in mobile device management, XenMobile made it easy for us to support Avea’s BYOD policy without imposing strict access limits on users.”
Avea recommends XenMobile to other organizations that support a large user community, mobile devices, and both centralized and branch locations. “Any company that values security, centralized management and ease of use will benefit from using XenMobile,” says Arpacıoğlu.
