We are excited to announce support for iPadOS 16 on Citrix Workspace app for iOS. This ensures that Citrix Workspace app users can experience hassle-free and seamless access to Citrix Workspace with their Apple devices running on iPadOS 16.

Along with the release of iPadOS 16, Apple has also launched new iPad devices with the M2 chip, which provides 35 percent better graphics performance compared with M1 devices.

Based on our internal testing, we have seen phenomenal results on M1 devices coupled with our Citrix HDX protocol compared with previous iPad models with the A12 Bionic chip. For example, CPU utilization was reduced by an average of 90 percent when running full HD videos at 60 frames per second from within a virtual desktop. Additionally, battery usage also dropped by about 2 percent. We’re confident that with the announcement of the M2 chip, we’ll be able to deliver even better results.

New Feature Support

With iPadOS 16, Apple’s Stage Manager leverages the power of M1 and M2 chips to provide users with new multi-tasking capabilities.*

Citrix Workspace app for iOS can now integrate with Apple’s Stage Manager, and users can:

  • Launch virtual apps or desktops from Citrix Workspace app in Windowed Mode
  • Resize the app window.
  • Run Citrix Workspace app along with three other native mobile apps and have them overlap.
  • Run a native app on the iPad screen and a Citrix virtual session on an external monitor.**

*Stage Manager can support some previous models of iPad devices as well. Please visit the Apple website for additional support details.

**This feature is dependent on Apple support for non-mirror mode External Display.

Please note, the extended display feature of Citrix Workspace app is not supported with Stage Manager today. An upcoming release, scheduled toward the end of November 2022, will include the fix for the same.

App Intent API

Another exciting iOS16 feature Apple has delivered is App Intent API. This allows app vendors to programmatically create Siri shortcuts without the manual intervention of a user to perform specific actions within the app.

In the upcoming 22.11.5 release, Citrix Workspace app for iOS will include support for App Intent API so users can launch virtual applications or desktops simply by using just a few Siri commands. For example:

  • “Hey, Siri. Launch Application/Desktop in Citrix Workspace”
  • Say the name of the targeted app/desktop to launch when prompted by Siri.
