Since the August launch of our latest desktops-as-a-service solution, Citrix Managed Desktops, customers and partners around the world have enjoyed the benefits of fast, simple delivery of apps and desktops. Businesses from small to enterprise-level are experiencing the ease of its turnkey design and the simplicity of managing apps and desktops from the powerful Microsoft Azure cloud. Today customers want to both simplify their IT services and yet make it flexible enough to support their organization and any business need that arises.

As a global, full-service live broadcast media and event production agency, it’s imperative that our employees have access to their work from anywhere globally on any device,” said Michael Thuney, CEO at De Tune Company. “Citrix Managed Desktops makes it easy for our team to deliver and access our apps and data from the cloud no matter where our work takes us.”

Our engineering and product teams have been hard at work, continuing to add features and services that make Citrix Managed Desktops the solution of choice for businesses looking to deliver apps and desktops from the cloud. Let’s look at just some of the recently added benefits the service now offers:

  1. Day 1 support for Azure Virtual Desktop (formerly Windows Virtual Desktop): Citrix and Microsoft have been collaborating for more than 25 years, and Citrix Managed Desktops and Azure Virtual Desktops represent the next wave. Microsoft has authorized Citrix Managed Desktops to provide users with the benefits of Azure Virtual Desktop. Now customers and partners can leverage Azure Virtual Desktop-qualifying entitlements to deliver Windows 10 EVD (multi-session) and Win 7 ESU using Citrix Managed Desktops.
  2. Bring Your Own Azure: Citrix has offered Citrix managed Azure compute from Day 1 as a convenient way to deliver apps and desktops in a true desktops-as-a-service solution with one convenient bill for both service and compute. Now Citrix takes it a step further, enabling customers and partners the capability to use your Azure subscription along with Citrix Managed Desktops. Why offer this option? Now customers and partner alike have the flexibility to use any Azure region or VM type as well as the option of leveraging reserved instance pricing from Microsoft. Either way you now have the flexibility to choose the way you deliver your apps and desktops.
  3. Expanded platform coverage: Citrix is excited to offer support not only for multi-session Windows 10, single-session Windows 10 and Windows 7 ESU but also support for Windows server workloads such as Windows 2012R2 and Windows 2019 along with Windows 2016. Now customers who are unable to migrate to Windows 10 due to supporting legacy apps can do so with Citrix Managed Desktops by continuing to leverage Windows 7. This along with the ability to publish apps from Windows Server workloads gives you the ability to deliver modern and legacy apps through one single pane of glass.
  4. Premium SSD: With Citrix Managed Azure, you can offer better performance for I/O intensive apps by leveraging the premium SSD storage for your workload virtual machines

But wait, there’s more! We are also excited to announce at this week’s Microsoft Ignite that Citrix is targeting to launch the tech preview of following new capabilities in the next few days:

  • Support Citrix-SD WAN integration: Enables customers to simplify and provide reliable network connectivity to on-prem resources for your cloud hosted desktops using Citrix SD-WAN Orchestrator service.
  • Simplified tenant management for service providers: Allows Citrix Service Providers to manage multiple customer accounts with simplicity and deliver customizations for their customers.
  • User personalization layer: Extends the capabilities of non-persistent Windows 10 single-session catalogs and preserves users’ data and locally installed applications across sessions.

We are also excited to team up with longtime partner IGEL to help deliver a complete Windows 10 migration package for customers that still haven’t migrated. You can check out the IGEL announcement for more.

As you can see, this is the most robust yet simple solution for the market today to deliver apps and desktops from the cloud. But don’t take our word for it. Stop by the Citrix booth (#1949) at Microsoft Ignite and ask for a demo. Or if you can’t make it, check out our interactive demo and more.
