It’s official. UEM has passed EMM as a common way of describing device management with the delivery of secure apps and data to endpoint devices. I’ve got proof.
Above is a Google Trends report comparing searches on UEM (in red) to EMM (in blue). Why the shift? In my opinion it has everything to do with workstyle preference, particularly BYOD. No longer do we have a set of devices for work and a separate set of devices to be used when we’re off the clock. As a result, the definition of a BYOD program has expanded beyond mobile devices to include laptops. Going one step further, it’s natural to want a single system to manage all device types regardless of whether they’re BYOD or corporate issued. EMM doesn’t cover what I just described but UEM does.
With each new XenMobile release we’re adding more security policies and controls for a wider range of device types including Windows 10 and macOS. This is critical and necessary as we endeavor to deliver a comprehensive and secure digital workspace.
We are pleased to announce the availability of XenMobile 10.7. XenMobile 10.7 will include server components as well as XenMobile apps and the MDX Toolkit.
XenMobile 10.7 highlights for Unified Endpoint Management include:
- New Windows 10 support includes the ability to apply BitLocker security and encryption policies to Windows 10 devices directly from the XenMobile device management platform. We’ve also added to our list of Windows 10 device controls with the ability to reboot a Windows 10 device remotely from the XenMobile console.
- iOS endpoint management enhancements include support for both Classroom App for iPad and Apple School Manager.
- Classroom App for iPad allows instructors to view student device screens, open apps on student iPads, share web links and even display a student’s screen on Apple TV.
- Apple School Manager is like the Device Enrollment Program but developed for the education vertical. Apple School Manager allows IT to create bulk/managed Apple IDs and purchase VPP licenses for iBooks and mobile applications.
- Deploy iBooks to iOS devices allows IT to purchase iBooks in bulk and distribute to specific users and/or groups of users.
- New iOS security policies include restrictions for dictation as well as WiFi whitelisting which means devices can only join WiFI hotspots that are pre-approved and assigned by IT.
- Android enhancements for the enterprise include New integration with XenMobile Tools and the Google Play store allows Android for Work policies to be applied to managed Android apps directly from the XenMobile console.
This release also provides Zero Day compatibility support for iOS 11 which is expected later this month.
As part of the Citrix Secure Digital Workspace, XenMobile 10.7 provides added security and value to the management of a broad range of endpoint devices.
