With each successive release of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop, monitoring and Analytics gets stronger and adds more information.

Citrix Director — the monitoring and troubleshooting solution for XenApp and XenDesktop — has introduced new monitoring capabilities, like CPU usage, memory usage, process usage, IOPS, proactive notification, and alerts that include historical data upto one year (for platinum editions) with 7.11 or later versions of XenApp and XenDesktop.

With this comes the caveat of an increase in storage requirements for storing the historical data in the monitor database.

Administrators monitoring the infrastructure should have as much historical data as possible to effectively manage and to ensure continuous health of the site. At the same time, administrators should plan for the storage requirement of data that is stored, for best performance of DB and monitoring features.

But, how can an administrator predict the rate at which data would grow?

Here is the extension of a tool that helps you do just that!!

Previously, we’d come up with a tool that provides the estimation of storage consumption by different versions of XenApp and XenDesktop sites and monitoring databases. The tool now includes updates to include 7.11 and higher versions.

With this tool, administrators can look into the monthly, quarterly or yearly growth of data in terms of storage depending on their license editions and data retention configuration.

More Details on the tool and how to use it can be found here. Let us know what you think! Leave feedback in the comments section below.
