New Features Improve Productivity, Collaboration, and Security

Today’s Digital Workspaces are facing increasing pressure to improve productivity and collaborative solutions, provide easy-to-access, mobile infrastructure, without creating operability challenges, and all within a secure environment.

In response to trends, Citrix ShareFile is adding features that expand their current offerings to support document-centric tasks and workflows required by the modern enterprise, expanded support for virtual environments, extended solutions for securely using email and cloud offerings for Federal Agencies.

Below is a highlight of the most important features we have released for the first half of 2017:

Advanced Document Workflows

Today, most document-centric workflows cannot be deployed without significant expertise and extensive consultation. However, with the growth of cloud services in recent years, we have seen increasing interest in productivity solutions to streamline the flow of information and the expediency of work across disparate cloud applications.

Custom Workflows combine features of multiple ShareFile components, including SecureForms, Feedback and Approvals, RightSignature with an automation engine, delivering a workflow solution that streamlines and automates the repeated, time consuming manual document-centric processes that customers face daily. The solution is delivered through an easy-to-consume and easy-to-maintain model which is both flexible and secure. This solution enables customers to combine custom triggers and actions into a tailored, automated workflow that benefits both IT Admins and everyday users, including the mobile workforce.

Customers realize huge advantages when no new code needs to written to start a custom workflow, improving productivity for companies that have resources that know how to move data from one server to another but do not have resources that can develop mobile apps.

ShareFile Custom Workflows are included in the Platinum Version of ShareFile Enterprise and will be available Q2’17

FedRAMP In Process

Citrix is pleased to share that FedRAMP listed ShareFile Government as a FedRAMP In-Process SaaS Solution, meaning ShareFile is actively working with a U.S. Government Agency to achieve FedRAMP Authorization. ShareFile worked with sponsorship from its existing customer, the Department of State and a third party assessment organization (3PAO) to reach this step in the accreditation process.

The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP, is a government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services. The FedRAMP certification assessment process includes an in-depth examination of a solution’s data security and data governance capabilities, as well as the security practices of the technology companies providing the cloud services.

Citrix ShareFile Government will enable federal agencies to leverage the operational efficiency and cost benefits of the cloud while ensuring the robust security controls required to comply with increasingly stringent public sector regulations. Through the FedRAMP process, ShareFile will meet the Federal Information Processing Stand (FIPS) Publication 140-2 when it achieves FedRAMP authorization.

ShareFile is currently listed as FedRAMP in Process and is actively seeking FedRAMP Authorized compliance. It is packaged separately and only sold to Federal, State and Local Government Agencies.

Cloud Connectors in ShareFile Drive Mapper: Extending OneDrive for VDI

Citrix is pleased to announce the availability of ShareFile Drive Mapper with connectors to Office365 (OneDrive), which improves performance and optimizes file sync and share for virtual desktop environments.

Beyond simple file sharing, users need the ability to collaborate inside and outside of the organization by having access to their personal digital workspace across all their devices while giving IT all the control they need to keep IP secure.  Citrix ShareFile is designed with hosted desktops in mind. Whether your company uses Citrix XenDesktop or any other virtual desktop solution, you can use the same file sync-and-share solution across both physical and virtual endpoints, and across on-premises and cloud storage.

With ShareFile Drive Mapper 3.5, which now includes Cloud Connector support for Office 365 users are fully supported on hosted virtual desktop solutions like XenApp and XenDesktop. Content, including access to OneDrive for Business, SharePoint, and other cloud repositories appear as a mapped Windows drive and users stay productive in the native Windows experience.

Most file sync-and-share solutions are not developed for the unique storage and performance requirements of hosted environments. Citrix ShareFile is designed with these requirements in mind, so customers can use the same file sync and share solution across physical and virtual endpoints and across on-prem and cloud storage environments. The bottom line? ShareFile is the only EFSS solution built for virtualized environments that allows users to truly embrace mobility across any device while protecting enterprise intellectual property.

Web-based editing for ShareFile for On-Prem Storage

Citrix is pleased to announce the ability for Citrix ShareFile users to co-author Office documents from within ShareFile, now available for documents stored on-prem. Customers need Office Online Server access to use this feature. This feature is made possible through an integration with Microsoft Office Online Server 2016, which is available to customers who have an Office 365 subscription or who purchase Office with software assurance.

ShareFile users have the ability to view and edit Microsoft Office documents directly from the ShareFile web application through our Microsoft Office Online integration. Co-editing takes Citrix ShareFile’s collaboration tools to the next level, allowing multiple users to edit Office documents within the ShareFile web application in a single session. No more sending a file to multiple users, making sure each user is properly using check-in/ checkout or merging everyone’s changes.

Office co-editing is one example of the close partnership between Citrix and Microsoft. Citrix was an inaugural member of the Microsoft Cloud Storage Partner Program, and this gives ShareFile the ability to integrate closely with Office Online. The expansion of this service to cover both cloud and the newly added on-prem storage is ideal for strict data compliance, as it limits user access and keeps data secure through file encryption.

New Email Integrations

As enterprises work to modernize their infrastructures, Citrix is hard at work making sure all platforms supported users can optimize how they want to work.

We are pleased to share three new email integrations:

  • ShareFile Gmail Plugin:  This new Chrome browser extension brings ShareFile functionality to Gmail for quick and easy file sharing directly in your email.
  • ShareFile for Outlook – with Mac Support: a new Microsoft Outlook add-on that brings ShareFile functionality to Outlook for Mac OS and Outlook Online (Office 365, Outlook Web Access and Outlook.com) users.
  • Exchange Connectors: users can easily access Microsoft Exchange file attachments organized in a folder structure from within the ShareFile applications

The ShareFile Gmail Plugin allows users to bypass file size restrictions and add security to attachments by sending them through ShareFile. Users can provide a secure file upload request for co-workers, customers and partner directly in Gmail. Users can be notified whenever someone accesses or sends a file and different security and access levels can be added on a file by file basis for great control.

ShareFile for Outlook – with Mac Support delivers ShareFile capabilities previously only available to Windows to the Mac Operating System. Users can access, send and request files and attachments as simply as Windows users; enable this add-in from the Outlook Add-in Store.

Unique to ShareFile, customers using the ShareFile Exchange Connector can download and share received attachments as file attachments via email using Microsoft Exchange. Users will now have the ability to easily access, download and share those files just as they do with files from other data sources using ShareFile as a single pane of glass. Using ShareFile Exchange Connectors improves productivity for users who can now easily access, download and share email file attachments using ShareFile as a single point of access to all data sources
