OK, it should come as no surprise to anyone that Microsoft is readying to release Windows Server 2016. I mean, they’ve had Tech Preview 5 out since April of 2016. It should also come as no surprise that Citrix has been in lock-step with XenApp and XenDesktop Tech Previews for Server 2016.

I’m sure that by now you’ve seen, read or heard that Citrix will offer Day 1 support of Windows Server 2016. We announced it at our Summit and Synergy events this year. We’ve said it in blog posts and videos. And at #MSIgnite—September 26-30 in Atlanta—we will be saying it again.

Citrix will support Windows Server 2016 on Day One!

But what does that really mean? Does that mean that if I got my hands on the released bits of Windows Server 2016 on X Day of X Month (remember, I can’t tell you the actual release date) that I could then install XenApp and XenDesktop 7.11 on it and start using it? Immediately? Well, in a word, yes. Yes, it does. It’s really that simple.

So, you see, there is no need to take the old approach to a new server OS and wait years to start working on it. You can truly start deploying and testing your own apps on Day 1 with XenApp and Windows Server 2016.

Here are some of the things you can do on Day 1:

  • Add your VDA and start launching shared hosted server desktops
  • Publish your key applications, like Office 2016
  • Start your app validation testing for Server 2016 with AppDNA

I can’t believe I got this far in a blog post without saying the word “cloud.” Consider this: is it coincidence or brilliant strategic planning that Windows Server 2016 is the cloud-ready operating system that delivers new layers of security and Azure-inspired innovation for applications and infrastructure, and that Citrix and Microsoft announced at Synergy an even stronger alliance in all things cloud? This and the support Citrix will continue to deliver for Windows Server 2016, is all with you—our customers and partners—in mind.

Are you going to Microsoft Ignite?

Do you want to see Server 2016 TP with XenApp and XenDesktop live? Then come to the Citrix booth and I will give you a personal demo. Well, maybe not me, but I will get one of my wicked smahhhhhht (as we say in Bahhstin) friends to do it.

While at Ignite, attend one of these sessions to see the unbelievable work Citrix and Microsoft are doing together.
