Wow! It feels like just a blink ago, the curtain was going down in Orlando and we were announcing that Citrix Synergy 2016 would take place in Las Vegas from May 24-27. Now – just like that – it’s already come and gone.
The conference may be over, but what’s not over is all the excitement that spilled out of the Opening Keynote, with President & CEO, Kirill Tatarinov, on Tuesday and the General Session, with Bill Burley, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Workspace Services, on Wednesday. We had NEWS at Synergy this year. BIG news!
And whether you were there or not, we have it all for you, right here.
Citrix Synergy, Day 1: Announcements, Customer Stories & The Business of YES
There was much to get excited about on Day 1. Citrix Synergy is always buzzing with excitement anyway, but this year, it rose to new heights. We have a new CEO. We have a new vision and new values. We have a whole new focus. AND we have a bold, new look and bold, new ways to empower our customers to say YES.
We had the introduction of Citrix HDX Ready Pi, which marries Citrix industry-leading virtualization architecture with the low-cost, enormously popular Raspberry Pi platform. PC refresh without IT headaches for less than $90!
Citrix Partner Nutanix brought us InstantON VDI for Citrix, a solution that offers our customers a full stack, end-to-end VDI solution that delivers an enterprise-level experience for just $415 per desktop. Nutanix InstantON VDI for Citrix makes VDI more affordable today than ever before and enables you to start small and deploy fast.
We had the release of XenServer 7, which, in the words of CTO Christian Reilly, “delivers on our promise to make the Citrix stack the most performant and cost effective for customers across any industry sector.” XenServer 7 gives it a big leg up in 3D graphics virtualization, transforms hypervisor security and has big time scalability improvements. We’re pretty excited about it, to say the least.
XenMobile 10 came charging in to Citrix Synergy 2016 with MAM-first technology, which allows for app-specific controls, such as wipe/lock an app, Single Sign On and more. Also in the new release was password-free EMM, thanks to partnership with Entrust and Intercede, as well as Mobile Threat Detection, powered by Skycure and Secure Android technology that works with the Samsung KNOX API. XenMobile 10 is going to make you sit up and take notice.
Not to be outdone, the innovation journey continued with the release of XenApp & XenDesktop 7.9. The new release (available in June) features secure single-sign to virtual apps and desktops, the ability to provision virtual machines on the Nutanix Acropolis hypervisor, a new platform on ultra-low-cost, high-performing Citrix HDX Ready Pi thin clients, high-resolution graphics powered by Intel Iris Pro and lots more. You’re right—it’s super-cool. We think so, too!
The NetScaler Family got in on the act, too! On Day 1, we announced the Citrix CloudBridge SD-WAN product line will become a key element of the NetScaler product portfolio and, going forward, will be known as NetScaler SD-WAN, which allows enterprise IT to increase the reliability of application delivery across the wide area network to the branch. It also measures the performance of WAN links in real time and instantly adapts to network impairments. But wait! There was more NetScaler news!
We also saw the announcement of The NetScaler Management And Analytics System (NMAS) — a big deal, to be sure — which centralizes policy management across devices and applications, provides service automation, and real-time analytics end-to-end, from one platform, to simplify IT operations and enable DevOps processes while reducing costs.
Last — but most certainly not least — came the big news from Citrix ShareFile, which now offers Information Rights Management to maintain the security of downloaded files. With Citrix ShareFile, you don’t have to worry anymore; when a file is shared with rights management protections, access to the file requires ShareFile authentication – even after the file has been downloaded. And THAT is cooler than the other side of the pillow.
WHEW! That was a lot of big, bold news for just one day. And there was lots more to come on Day 2 … but you’re just going to have to wait for my next blog post to find out about that (or check out all of the blog posts from Citrix Synergy 2016 for yourself!)
