HPE Discover draws a diverse community of customers from every industry in every part of the globe, but there’s a common theme uniting every one of these organizations: the need for their strategic vendors to help them drive digital transformation.
At this week’s event, you’ll see how Citrix and Microsoft—together with HPE—are working to help customers bring their workforce to new levels of mobility, collaboration and productivity with secure access to apps on any device, anywhere.
Responding to the most pressing priorities of our customers, Citrix and Microsoft have recently introduced major innovations across four key areas: cloud-based VDI, Microsoft Windows 10 migration, Microsoft Office 365 adoption and enterprise mobility.
Windows 10 migration
The latest Microsoft desktop OS is taking the world by storm as both businesses and consumers rush to upgrade—sometimes racing to see who’ll get there first. To stay one step ahead of users, you need to be able to complete the migration quickly and effectively, without running into compatibility problems. Traditionally, that’s been an expensive and time-consuming task—but not anymore.
Citrix and Microsoft have long worked together to streamline customer migrations to new platforms. Now, Citrix AppDNA provides a complete toolset for integrated application compatibility and interoperability testing, dependency discovery and image validation. IT gains clear visibility into which applications are ready for Windows 10 and which need remediation—as well as tools to help address any compatibility issues that come to light. That’s a smarter and faster way to make the move to Windows 10.
Once you’ve completed the migration, the integration of System Center Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr) with Citrix solutions helps you manage all the apps on your Windows 10 devices through a single pane of glass. XenApp apps now appear as another application type that ConfigMgr can deploy, so you can publish apps directly to Citrix Receiver on Windows 10 via XenApp—and realize even more value from both XenApp and ConfigMgr. HPE and Citrix are partnering to help ensure a smooth transition to Windows 10 for our mutual customers.
Office 365 adoption
Hundreds of millions of enterprise employees are already using Office 365 apps and mobile apps for a more connected, collaborative and productive work environment … and the movement is still picking up speed.
For many organizations, the challenge is how to leverage the benefits of Office 365 in the cloud while still delivering the Win32 apps, plugins and macros that users continue to rely on. Citrix meets that need with the most comprehensive and scalable solution for hosting a full Win32 app and remoting it to any device. IT can manage a single instance for optimal efficiency, while users can access the same consistent experience on any device, anywhere.
One of the most popular and exciting elements of Office 365 is Skype for Business, the most cost-effective way to support voice and video calls anywhere in the world, on any device. Citrix and Microsoft have worked together to provide an outstanding user experience for the solution in XenApp and XenDesktop environments with Citrix HDX Real-time Optimization Pack for Skype for Business. As Brad Anderson, corporate vice president at Microsoft, has said:
Skype for Business on Citrix VDI—it’s the ONLY way to use Skype and VDI together.” HPE is also ready to help customers stand up Office 365 apps and Skype for Business on Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop.
Both Citrix and Microsoft have played central roles in the advance of business mobility. Now our enterprise mobility capabilities are more closely aligned than ever, so that Citrix customers will get incremental value from Microsoft Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS), and EMS customers will get even more from their Citrix investment.
The integration of Citrix solutions with EMS enables a best-of-both-worlds approach to mobile application management. By integrating Citrix apps on iOS and Android with the Intune App SDK, Citrix will make it possible for Worx apps, Citrix ShareFile and Citrix Receiver to share information across other key business apps—including Office mobile apps—while protecting data. Support for Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) for identity will simplify and strengthen secure and access control.
Going even further, Citrix is integrating NetScaler into EMS, Microsoft will embed NetScaler capabilities into Intune App SDK, and Citrix will also embed a number of EMS capabilities into Citrix XenMobile. Together, these integrations will enable XenMobile customers to benefit from the comprehensive capabilities of EMS, while EMS customers will gain conditional access to on-premises apps and data on a per-device, per-app and micro VPN level. Every customer will benefit from the fact that all the Microsoft and Citrix apps will participate in the same MAM container and be able to securely share information. HPE stands ready to help our mutual customers implement mobile solutions that leverage Citrix and Microsoft technologies to fulfill their vision for a more secure, manageable and cost-effective digital workspace.
VDI in the cloud
The mass migration of enterprise workloads to the cloud continues, as businesses realize the value of real-time provisioning and scalability, pay-as-you-go cost efficiency and rapid innovation. But building and maintaining your own infrastructure for centralized apps and desktops can be a daunting and resource-intensive prospect for IT.
Now Microsoft and Citrix are making it simpler than ever for you to move your apps and desktops to the cloud with new as-a-service solutions hosted in Azure. With both your cloud infrastructure and your Citrix solutions offered as managed services, you can focus on the needs of your users and your business.
As part of this model, Citrix will soon offer customers who’ve purchased Windows Software Assurance on a per-user basis the option to host their Windows 10 Enterprise Current Branch for Business images on Azure through our Citrix XenDesktop VDI solution. That’s big news for both Microsoft and Citrix customers—the first time organizations have had the flexibility to run Windows 10 VDI desktops in Azure. For customers choosing to implement either hybrid or Azure-based Windows 10 desktop environments, HPE Enterprise Services can provide valuable assistance and best practices formed through extensive experience with on-premises Azure stack solutions can provide valuable assistance.
