In previous versions of XenMobile—9.0 and below—we had a few main components:

1) MDM or Mobile Device Management Server for Device management and enrolments.
2) AppController Server for MAM enrolment,Web, SaaS, Enterprise apps.
3) NetScaler and
4) StoreFront for XenApp/XenDesktop apps.

Where remote users needed to access their SaaS and Enterprise apps along with XenApp/XenDesktop published apps via their web browser, they used to launch the NetScaler Gateway’s URL. Post authentication if the AppController was integrated with StoreFront, they get access to apps published by AppController and StoreFront.

With the release of XenMobile 10.x, AppController is now merged into XMS (XenMobile Server) and we are left with following components:

1) XMS server
2) NetScaler and
3) StoreFront

Access to the apps through a Web browser is no longer the same as it was in older versions of XenMobile. If you use the same NetScaler Gateway URL on a web browser to access any of the non mobile apps, you will get 404.

For the customer that continues to use the Web to access XenApp, XenDesktop and other Web and SaaS apps, they need a solution to make this possible.

Unified Access Gateway is the way to go.

Unified Gateway is integrated into NetScaler 11.0 release. When configured, Unified Gateway provides consolidation via one URL to access multiple secured services.
