Applications serve as the core of your business, but applications are only as agile as the infrastructure on which they run.
Achieving agility requires that the data center infrastructure is able to dynamically respond to changing application needs. With conventional data center infrastructure, you can sometimes wait weeks for a change. As businesses look to increase their competitive differentiation, agility in the data center becomes more critical than ever. The capability of IT to respond quickly to changing business requirements is fundamental to success of an organization.
Compared to traditional, distributed approaches for application and desktop deployment and management, virtualization solutions like XenApp and XenDesktop promise greater business agility, better data protection, improved compliance with industry and corporate standards and significantly reduced operating costs. Achieving these gains, however, depends on ensuring the availability, security, and performance of the applications, and scalability of the data center infrastructure.
Leading IT organizations know that their application and desktop virtualization deployments need to be served by a dedicated solution that can deliver the agility that these applications need. To achieve this, secure access, and the best performance results for XenApp and XenDesktop, organizations can combine the capabilities of Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) with Citrix NetScaler Application Delivery Controller (ADC) appliances.
The integration of Cisco ACI and Citrix NetScaler reduces deployment complexity by taking advantage of infrastructure that is automated using centralized policy-based management. This means that IT staff can give users fast and secure access to their applications with data center infrastructure that enhances the benefits promised by XenApp and XenDesktop.
Achieving Success with Application and
Enterprises that invest in XenApp and XenDesktop unlock the ability to:
• Sustainably reduce desktop ownership and operating costs
• Deliver Windows applications to Windows and non-Windows devices
• Enable workplace flexibility, as well as workforce continuity, in the event of a disaster or disruption
• Improve security and meet compliance mandates by keeping desktops, applications, and data in the data center
• Increase business agility by rapidly and efficiently supporting strategic initiatives such as mergers and acquisitions, geographic expansion, and dynamic partnership arrangements
Deliver Agile, Policy-driven Networks with Cisco ACI and NetScaler
Cisco ACI is a scalable, resilient, high-speed fabric that uses software-defined networking (SDN) concepts to automate network configuration. The Cisco ACI fabric connects networks to applications without the need to rewire or physically reconfigure network components as application requirements change. Built on a foundation of Cisco Nexus 9000 spine and leaf switches, ACI consolidates virtual and physical networks, supporting any-to-any switching for optimal flexibility.
Cisco ACI features a centralized point of control—the Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC)—which administrators use to set up and manage the ACI infrastructure, including the insertion of NetScaler services. Network administrators can use the APIC GUI to design and control networks or programmatically define configurations in APIC using XML or JSON.
Citrix NetScaler intelligently directs application traffic between the Cisco ACI fabric and the available infrastructure. The combination of Cisco ACI and NetScaler provides a flexible way to link network services to applications, thereby improving application security, increasing performance and optimizing service levels while increasing deployment agility.
Cisco recommends the use of NetScaler appliances when designing next-generation data center networks (or as a direct replacement to Cisco ACE products) because NetScaler is the only ADC in which the full feature set is exposed to the ACI fabric, enabling fully automated deployment.
