For the past few years, I have been highlighting the tremendous growth we’re seeing from the Citrix Service Provider program. In fact, the 2014 Citrix Annual Report reported more than 50 percent growth, year-over-year in Citrix-based Desktops-as-a-Service sales.

Today, Telefonica, one of the world’s largest telecommunications providers, announced Virtual Desktop – a Citrix-based DaaS offering – in its home country of Spain, illustrating the growing maturity and momentum we’re seeing in the Citrix Service Provider program.

Telefonica’s Citrix-based DaaS offers a powerful example of how the Citrix Service Provider program includes the largest telecommunications carrier in Spain and Latin America, as well as smaller Citrix Service Providers who specialize in providing business-ready desktops that have been customized for vertical markets like financial services, manufacturing and healthcare.

The Telefonica service offers business customers the choice of completely virtualized Windows desktops delivered from the cloud, or specific business applications delivered through a portal on the current user’s desktop. To provide the highest level of subscriber flexibility and value, Telefonica customers can pay for the service per-user, per-month, allowing customers to choose to expand or reduce the number of subscribing users at any time with no fixed term.

What sets this DaaS offering apart is its potential for exponential growth, based on Telefonica’s position as the world’s largest carrier serving Spain and Latin America. As businesses adopt the Telefonica Virtual Desktop service, the company can expand the service beyond Spain to its business customers throughout Latin America.

This service not only illustrates the strength of the Citrix Service Provider program. It also shows how the global DaaS market has matured to the point where one of the world’s largest telecommunications carriers is embracing it as a way to provide new value to business customers.
