Last quarter, we released Receiver for HTML5 1.7 with the features like session reliability, file transfer and the new Receiver UI. Receiver for HTML5 1.8 enables new innovative use cases, as it is also available as SDK now!

Receiver for HTML5 as SDK: Until this release, Receiver for HTML5 was available only on StoreFront server. This allows clientless access from any browser by connecting to StoreFront directly or through NetScaler and launching the HDX session in a browser tab. Now with Receiver for HTML5 as SDK, you can host it on any other web server other than StoreFront and leverage it for rendering the HDX session. Use a different zip package for Receiver for HTML5 from the SDK download page to host it on a web server.

The typical use of this SDK is in conjunction with StoreFront SDK, which can be used to get the ICA file and then hand it over to ‘Receiver for HTML5 as SDK’ to render it. You can also embed the view of remote Windows app and desktop in your custom web page and customize the error messages etc. to suit your requirement. This SDK enables partners, customers and ISVs from different vertical markets to provide Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop as a service in a more integrated manner with their products and services.

Download the Receiver for HTML5 1.8 for hosting, SDK, examples and documentation from here. The screenshot below shows an example of embedded view with Receiver for HTML5 using SDK with back-end authentication and ICA file generation done through StoreFront API.

16-bit color depth: Receiver for HTML5 now supports connection in 16-bit color depth to XenApp 6.5 and also to new ‘Thinwire Plus’ mode in XenApp and XenDesktop 7.6 FP3. This mode is typically used for access from remote branches where the available bandwidth is low.

We added the support for file transfer with Receiver for Chrome and HTML5 1.7 release. This requires a VDA side component for File Transfer virtual channel that is downloadable from Receiver download page. In XenApp and XenDesktop 7.6 FP3, the File transfer component is integrated in the VDA so you don’t need to install a separate component to enable it.

Receiver for HTML5 is hosted on StoreFront server. When you install StoreFront 3.0.1, Receiver for HTML5 1.8 is automatically installed. In order to upgrade, you can install Receiver for HTML5 1.8 on StoreFront 2.5 or later. Do not install Receiver for HTML5 1.8 with StoreFront versions prior to 2.5
