Calling all Horizon View customers!
Want better user experience, stronger security and more flexibility for your VDI and app virtualization environment?
Today, we are releasing our first version of VMware Horizon View to Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop migration service, along with a free migration kit. If you thought migration would be hard and time-consuming, then we have some good news for you. The migration service can help you migrate in less than 15 minutes with almost no downtime if you have a XenDesktop environment deployed. Now, do I have your attention?
No Pain, Just Gain
We had three key design goals for the migration service, and they are:
1) No Disruption – Create a simple service to migrate data from Horizon View environment without interrupting any administrative workflow.
2) No Downtime – Stand up a side-by-side XenDesktop environment for administrators to roll out pilots and PoCs. The existing Horizon View environment should be up and functioning all the time. The migration should not have any impact on an existing Horizon View environment.
3) No Productivity Loss – The end user productivity should not be affected. Users can disconnect from their Horizon View desktops and apps and connect to the same desktop via Citrix Receiver.
With the above goals in mind, we created an easy, three step in-place migration service.
Here is a quick demo video that goes through the migration process using the Citrix Lifecycle Management service.
Simplify Your Migration Further with Citrix Workspace Cloud
You can choose to simplify the migration even more by moving to the Applications and Desktops Service of Citrix Workspace Cloud. This deployment model lets you skip the steps to install XenDesktop management components on premises. Your users will continue to use and securely connect to all of their existing desktop virtual machines hosted on the vSphere hypervisor in your datacenter. However, you as an administrator can benefit from easier to use cloud-based management hosted by Citrix Workspace Cloud platform.
Lower your cost and enable more flexible options
Now, you can go even further in your migration journey and save a lot on hypervisor cost and VMware ELA by migrating VMs and replacing vSphere with XenServer or Hyper-V. Once you move off VMware Horizon View you can take your users desktops to any cloud including Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services
Finally, I want to call out Carl Webster, a Citrix Technology Professional (CTP), who worked with Citrix engineers and helped us create, document and test this service. Please check out his website where he helps Citrix administrators with XenDesktop and XenApp PowerShell utilities and other Citrix related tips and tricks.
