Welcome to the Linux Virtual Desktop team blog. As the title suggests, we are the team that is working on the new Linux Virtual Desktop or, as it is more commonly known, the Linux VDA.
Currently, the Linux VDA team consists of engineers from the Citrix Labs team in Sydney, Australia. You might know us from some of our previous work:
- Seamless Windows
- the OS/2 client
- Speedscreen Latency Reduction
- Secure Gateway (versions v1.0, v1.1, v1.2 and v2.0)
- Smart Auditor
- Application Isolation Environments
- PortICA (the progenitor for what is XenDesktop today).
- the original iPhone Rx
- the original Android Rx
- the original Blackberry Playbook/BB10 Rx.
We’ve been working on the Linux VDA since early 2014. Since then, we have had 2 private beta, a tech preview and a version 1.0 release. We wrote the initial Installation Guides for the Tech Preview and v1.0.
We are doing a lot of the heavy lifting on this project, but we’re not doing it alone. We have some SMEs from other teams who are helping us with various parts of the XenDesktop product (e.g. graphics codecs, FMA, etc).
This blog is intended to be a way for our team to share setup/configuration tips, technical information, troubleshooting tips and other Linux VDA gems.
We are currently working on our next release and might talk about some of that work here as well.
The intention of this particular post is to be a launching point to all of the other posts from the team. When we do a new post we will update this page to include a link to the new post so you can bookmark this page and check back from time to time.
Now to get things started here are our first few posts.
