Melio, a new addition to the Citrix portfolio, provides high availability of data and workloads such as XenDesktop and XenApp. Customers can scale out and achieve high availability in one datacenter, or across multiple active-active geo-distributed datacenters.

Melio is an enterprise storage and data virtualization platform. It extends the benefits of virtualization to the storage layer (by decoupling data from physical storage) in much the same way that server virtualization decouples the operating system from physical servers.

Its Software Defined Storage feature improves elasticity of customers’ existing storage and server infrastructure, and by using NetScaler for load balancing, Melio provides seamless failover between sites without any disruption to the user experience.

“I have already downloaded Melio for a customer POC. They wanted to have an active/active DR configuration for their XenDesktop platform. We leveraged Melio with two Netscaler’s in a special configuration to file cluster the persona data location so in reality we only need to have one XenDesktop site instead of two for dynamic load balancing and GSLB for access. This technology with the appropriate amount of connectivity between the two sites 100mb is a perfect solution for Citrix,” says Walter Scott from SLAIT Consulting, CSA.
