Convergence. It is a word that has been thrown around for the past few years, and with every year it seems many of us in IT hype it even further. “We are approaching the hyper convergence of devices, desktops and the internet,” we enthuse. “Wearable technology and 3D printing will seal the uber convergence of consumer and enterprise tech,” the headlines scream!  As the conversation heats up, more terms get thrown in such as the Internet of Things, connected devices, smart technology, etc. But while all those phrases are fine, focusing on the semantics waters down the excitement of what is happening right now – that we are approaching a culmination of decades of technology innovation that will enable us to use apps, data and devices in ways we never thought possible.

I recently had the honor to join Citrix as Chief Strategy Officer. What excites me most about this opportunity is not only that 2015 is a fantastic time to be in technology, but it is also a thrilling time to be a part of Citrix. With solid executive leadership, a unique and spirited culture, and a huge ecosystem, it is a well-respected company. But more importantly, it has helped its customers solve hard problems – I know, because I was a customer of Citrix for many years while I was CIO at Bechtel. Citrix has an intense focus on securely delivering apps and data to and from any device to help people work better. It has been innovating, and continues to innovate, around the pieces that help unify life and technology. This year you are going to see a lot of these pieces come together (yes, converge) and help our customers do even more amazing things.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. My intent with this first blog is to introduce myself and invite you to join me on this journey. In future posts I plan to give you a glimpse into the Citrix I see every day. To start, I want to hear from you. Tell me in the comments (or ping me on Twitter: @Geirheads) what excites you about the state of technology right now?
