If you have been watching Citrix recently you have heard us talk a lot about mobile workspaces. The reason is simple – the traditional desktop is evolving into something much more valuable for people and businesses – and that is the mobile workspace. A mobile workspace is where you have all the digital stuff you need to work – your work apps, documents, presentations, spreadsheets, videos, data – and your own apps and tools, too. That place used to be restricted to just your work desktop. Today people use multiple devices – phone, tablets and laptops – so they need access no matter where they are, not just from their desktop at the office. The best approach is for your workspace to move with you, just like your personal apps and tools, accessible from any device, or even the cloud.
That is the value and promise of the secure, personal, mobile workspace – it presents challenges and opportunities for IT (and service) providers – and it’s why mobile workspaces matter. And make no mistake, they are coming. Better to be ready.
How should IT tackle the mobile workspace opportunity? The same way they have other new technologies – look for the leaders and understand the key technologies around mobile workspaces. Mobile workspaces consist of all the digital stuff – apps and data – IT manages and delivers to enable people to work from anywhere. The key technologies for delivering mobile workspaces are delivery technologies for apps and data – mobile app management, app delivery controllers, Windows app virtualization, data sync & share, and device management – mobile and desktop.
And of course we’ve also led the way in Windows App & Desktop Virtualization. We believe by integrating these market-leading technologies we’ve become the leader in mobile workspace delivery infrastructure. In fact, we are the only vendor that has technology in every one of these categories; EMM, EFSS, ADC and App and Desktop Virtualization.
We are excited at the opportunity of mobile workspaces and our unique position to lead the industry and help our customers transform the way IT services are delivered, managed and consumed. But we see this as only the beginning and have much more to do and we want to share our ideas, vision and challenges. This blog series will dig a little deeper to share how we are thinking about mobile workspaces. And of course we’d love to hear from you. What do you think about mobile workspaces? Are there other technologies that you consider core? How are you progressing from desktops to mobile workspaces?
