My friends know about my two addictions – (a) good coffee and (b) the most delectable cookie that my Dutch friends introduced me to – the Stroopwafel!  Watch this quick two minute video I found on YouTube that shows you how to enjoy this piece of heaven!  To me these treats are great by themselves but even better together.

When I saw the two recent Gartner Magic Quadrant reports – for Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) Suites and Enterprise File Synchronization and Sharing (EFSS), I couldn’t help thinking that Citrix XenMobile and Citrix ShareFile create yet another “better together” story.  We are honored to be recognized as leaders in both Gartner Magic Quadrants.

For 25 years, the Citrix motto has always been to enable remote access (and mobile workstyles) for users.  With the proliferation of smartphones and tablets in enterprise, the significance of mobile productivity is more important today than it ever has been in the past.  Today’s mobile workforce depends on the ability to work and collaborate anywhere, with seamless access to all the resources their work involves—including both apps and data—on any device they use. For IT, the challenge is to provide this access while maintaining security and control.

While mobile device management (MDM) helps you secure devices, it’s only part of the solution; complete mobile productivity also requires secure mobile email and the ability to access, sync and share data on any device people use. Most importantly, to win full adoption and prevent people from using non-secure personal apps instead, an enterprise mobility solution has to combine advanced features designed for business with a consumer-like experience they’ll love.

This is why enterprise file sync and sharing has become such a critical requirement for EMM.  It’s also why Citrix has made ShareFile such an integral part of Citrix XenMobile, and why we’ve seen over 85% of our Mobile Platform customers opting for the full XenMobile Enterprise edition for complete EMM and EFSS capabilities.

Secure, sync and share data on any device, everywhere

Users switch back and forth between their devices almost all the time.  Users access their content from many devices – a PC, laptop, smartphone and/or a tablet.  I myself switch often between my MacBook Air, iPhone, iPad and my XenDesktop.  I automatically expect my content to be available and accessible on all these device form factors.  ShareFile enables me to access my files on any device, anywhere!

Workflow driven productivity

I was at a conference last week, which meant that most times I could only access my data from only my smartphone.   Without XenMobile or ShareFile, I would need to use 4-5 different applications, and several visits in and out of these apps to perform a simple task of scheduling a meeting, inviting teammates, adding conference bridge information and attaching documents to the calendar invitation as reference.  Refer to these two workflows (without any Citrix Apps to the top, and with Citrix apps at the bottom):

ShareFile and XenMobile, along with other productivity apps such GoToMeeting, Cisco WebEx and Microsoft Lync, enable the true mobile productivity that users envision when they hear about an EMM solution.  Users should not be forced to switch between apps (or devices) to get their job done.

As you can see in the screenshots below, an email or a calendar invitation from WorxMail automatically attaches the ShareFile links.  Therefore, users do not have to navigate in and out of applications to share a document from an email or a meeting invitation on their smartphone or tablet.

Rich content management

With the rapid evolution of productivity apps in enterprises, tablets and smartphones are now used for content creation and not content consumption alone.   Therefore, accessing content for mere viewing purposes on these devices does not suffice anymore.  ShareFile enables the rich content editing capabilities for users to get their job done without restricting them to a specific device type or location.

For example, while I was at my kid’s music class over the weekend, I could quickly use just ShareFile on my iPhone to review, add a few comments and markup the document a teammate was trying to publish.

Aggregate file repositories

Accessing, viewing, editing and sharing the content from ShareFile is made so simple and easy.  However, Citrix is very well aware of the fact that every enterprise has additional file repositories such as Microsoft SharePoint® and network file shares among other solutions.  At Citrix Synergy in May, ShareFile announced the SDK for Storage Zone Connectors for developers to create connections to other enterprise content management data sources.   Enterprise users can therefore look to ShareFile as their unified content management solution.

Citrix has led the way for EMM in the past year, and continues to innovate and stay ahead of the market.  We are honored and proud to be recognized as a leader from Gartner and will continue to progress by focusing on security, simplicity and delight—for both IT and end users.
