The purpose of this blog is to provide information on setting up a new license server to upload licenses for XenMobile Device Manager (XDM). Having a license server is mandatory to install XDM server.

Note:

1. If you have an existing Citrix License Server, you can leverage that for XDM installation.

2. If you are upgrading your XDM from 8.7 to 9.0, you don’t need to install the license server. Existing license will be used and the XDM server will be upgraded.

3. If you don’t provide license server information during XDM installation, you will only get a one month trial period to use XDM server.

1.1.    Setup License Server

License server can be set up, on any Windows server 2008 or higher. Here I have used Windows server 2012.

Step 1: Start the XDM 9.0 installation. When prompted with components selection page, select only “License Server” check box and click on Next.

Step 2: Choose where you want to install the components and click Install

Step 3: Complete the installation by clicking on Next

Step 4: Click Finish.

This completes your License Server installation.

1.2.    Upload an XDM Server License

To upload the license for your XDM, follow the below steps.

Step 1: On the Windows Server Desktop Metro screen,  search for “Citrix License Administration Console” and open it.

Step 2: On top right side of the page, click on “Administration

Step 3: Login with your local admin account or domain service account (if its part of a domain)

     Ex: domain\service account – for domain joined systems

           Computername\administrator – for stand-alone systems.

Step 4:  Once you are logged in, click on “Vendor Daemon Configuration” on the bottom left side.

This will give you an option to “Import License”. Click on that button.

Step 5: Click Browse to locate the XDM license file.

Note: The file should be in .LIC format.

Step 6: Once the file is uploaded, you will get success message.

Step 7:  Then click on “Administer” in the Vendor Daemon Configuration.

Step 8: Click on “Reread License Files” to make the server read the uploaded license file.

Note:

If you are not able to see the newly uploaded license file or if your XDM license has expired and you have uploaded a new license file; then, you need to click on Reread license file as shown above. This will make the server refresh the license files uploaded into it.
