Citrix has recently announced release of XenDesktop 7.1 which add supports for Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1. So, let’s look at what’s new from App-V Integration team in XenDesktop 7.1 release.

  •  App-V Integration also extended its support to Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 platforms.
  • Extended Low-Level SDK support in this release that helps to configure the App-V publishing server settings on the VDA. These are Get-CtxAppvServerSetting and Set-CtxAppvServerSetting.

These CmdLets should be executed on Desktop Delivery Controller to set App-V Publishing Server settings like UserRefreshOnLogon, UserRefreshEnabled, UserLogonRefreshInterval, UserRefreshIntervalUnit on VDA.

Example: Set-CtxAppvServerSetting –AppVPublishingServer “http://publishing-server:port” -UserRefreshOnLogon $false -UserRefreshEnabled $true

With the addition of these CmdLets from XenDesktop 7.1, Admin has an option of using either these CmdLets to set App-V Publishing Server settings or Use GPO to set these settings. In a scenario, where  Admin uses App-V only with Citrix Infrastructure, It is recommended to set App-V Publishing server settings using the CmdLets for better management which also helps to avoid GPO management. Also please remember that GPO always Wins, if settings are enabled using both GPO and CmdLets.”

NOTE: App-V Launcher logs location has changed to “%LocalAppData%\Citrix\CtxAppVLogs\” on VDA from XenDesktop 7.1. To know more on how to enable logs on both server and VDA, refer:
