XenDesktop 7.1 builds upon the great new HDX features and functionality introduced with XenDesktop 7.0, such as high-performance GPU sharing (OpenGL and DirectX) for Windows Server RDS workloads, increased video frame rate over limited bandwidth connections, Windows Media Redirection for iOS (in addition to existing Windows and Linux support) for increased server scalability, and multicast support for Windows media. A list of these recent enhancements and detailed information is available in this blog post about  HDX in XenDesktop 7 and this related video on reinventing HDX in mobile, 3D graphics, and beyond.

The new HDX updates specific to XenDesktop 7.1 include:

  • Flash Redirection support for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Studio console support for GPU provisioning on XenServer using GPU passthrough and the upcoming NVIDIA GRID vGPU technology (currently in Tech Preview)
  • Automatically enabled DirectX hardware acceleration for VDAs when the server (or office PC, in the case of Remote PC Access) has GPU hardware

Additionally, Remote PC Access features new code that stores window positions between users’ office PCs and remote devices to deliver the most seamless roaming experience across all machines.
