XP migration, XenApp upgrade, XenDesktop deployment, combination rollout? This is the time for moving forward on critical end of year projects or planning 2014 rollouts. All of those require upfront planning. While it could sound like a difficult process, there are ways to streamline and simplify an application migration project tied to an OS migration or virtualization project.  One healthcare customer took advantage of a powerful software combination to have the intelligence to understand users, applications and the best way to manage both.

Citrix Ready partner RES Software shared the story of a 5,500 seat, 24-location hospital network that accelerated their application migration using a combination of RES Baseline Desktop Analyzer (BDA) and the Citrix AppDNA application migration software. With their services partner, the healthcare customer was able to first automate the application compatibility with the AppDNA software then used RES BDA to detect what users actually did with applications.  Combining information from the two analyses, the partner could determine only a small subset of users actively launched applications with difficult application compatibility problems.

Knowing what needed to be deployed, the team set about packaging applications for Citrix XenApp, Microsoft App-V, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2…because it’s September television season premiere time in the US, I’m only going to give you the commercial cliffhanger detail. The migration team was able to prepare 100 applications for deployment on App-V in just 1 day.

How can this be possible?
