Hi, my name is Jon Froda and I’m the co-founder and brand strategy director of Podio, the collaborative work platform built to empower you to work the way you want, where you want. I’d like to introduce you to what I’ll be discussing at Synergy this year during my breakout session: May 23, 3:00 PM – SYN230: Podio: up close and personal.
Much more than just talking about work
“Social collaboration” has become a popular term to describe a lot of new work tools that have brought many conventions of social media into business. I would describe Podio as a social collaboration tool – but I (and our customers) would say that Podio is fundamentally different from other tools that fall into this category. Podio is not just a place to talk about work or a social layer added on top of a legacy system; it is the place where work is done – for teams and across companies, in over 200,000 organizations around the world.
Our approach to “social” has always been to make it solve specific collaboration problems – and not be “social for the sake of being social” or another communication silo.
You “comment” on project deliverables in Podio because in-context conversations are much faster than sending an email with a document attachment. You “like” when someone closes a deal in your Podio CRM workspace as a sign of peer recognition that motivates your team. You ask a question in your group activity stream, rather than starting an email thread, because you get a better and faster answer when all the relevant people are involved.
One topic we’ll look at in the “Podio: up close and personal” session is the increased transparency that social collaboration brings to teams. We’ve designed Podio to give you greater visibility of projects and workflows: tasks are clear so deadlines don’t get missed and mistakes like double-work are eliminated; decisions are made as things develop, rather than retrospectively; and progress is tracked so resources can be allocated when they’re needed.
But rather than just presenting the results of using Podio, I’ll use this session to show you how easy it is to get started on Podio and make it work for your business.
Real work in real time
I’m also looking forward to showing you the new real-time collaboration elements of Podio. Just this month we launched Podio Chat, bringing instant messaging (IM) into Podio on any device. The days of communication silos in stand-alone IM tools, with files lost and ideas forgotten, are over. Chat adds a new dimension to project management and collaboration – enabling everyone to make faster decisions and perfect the details of their work in real time, with one-on-one or group chats right inside of Podio.
