On May 2, I joined an influential crowd of women attending the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s “Top 100 Women of Influence in Silicon Valley ” award dinner.  It was my first experience at this event and great to see the many awesome leaders making an impact in their organizations, companies and communities.  Citrix Senior Vice President, Catherine Courage, was one of the honorees at this event for her work in championing exceptional design to drive innovation at Citrix.  Congrats Catherine!

When I go to these kinds of events, I do try to obtain some gold nuggets of wisdom to keep in my back packet for future use.  The award organizer asked each honoree to share her “one best piece of advice you received in life.”  There were many good ones, but here are the top 5 that resonated with me:

– Always do what you say you are going to do

– Take negative and turn to positive..

– Measure your work by how much you help others

– Find simple solutions to complex problems

– Embrace who you are and excel with what you have been given

And I honestly loved Catherine’s, too, which was “Don’t take life too seriously, nobody gets out alive.” Gotta love it!  🙂

There are some advices that I did not hear at this event but I feel are just as important, which are  Leading by example, and Integrity underpins everything we do.  The overall learning I walked away with was that no matter what line of work you are in to lead others to accomplish missions/goals, you can’t forget to live and work by the values that are most important to you.  Happy Monday!
