Project Avalon Excalibur Technology Preview was announced at Citrix Synergy 2012 in Barcelona, and has been available on since November 1, 2012.

We have created a series of short videos, each about 3 minutes long, to help with a quick evaluation of this next generation Citrix release.

These videos are by no means an exhaustive feature demonstration of this “giant leap” release. They are intended to get you started and develop familiarity with the interface before you undertake a more detailed evaluation. You can find very detailed and useful product documentation on the Excalibur download page. For this series, the target audience is someone with at least basic familiarity with previous  versions of Citrix XenApp and Citrix XenDesktop.

The videos take you through the steps of downloading and installing the software, setting up an Excalibur site, creating machine catalogs and delivery groups, and end-user access of published apps or desktops from Citrix Receiver. It also touches upon Citrix Director for helpdesk operations and troubleshooting by Citrix specialists.

In the given examples, we deliver desktops and apps from both desktop operating systems (Windows 8 and Windows 7) and server operating systems (Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2008R2). This is a very simplified demo of what is in itself a rather simple product.

Excalibur is the Citrix equivalent to a point-and-shoot digital camera, with the performance of an SLR. Intuitive wizards and unified consoles for delivering both apps and desktops, all redesigned based on exhaustive user research and customer feedback, make administration and management a breeze. To learn more about what has changed, what’s new, and what the changes mean to XenApp administrators refer to the guides on MyCitrix.

Standard Disclaimers: As with any technology preview, this is intended for non-production environments and contains known issues that may cause instability.

The total duration of the video series is about 30 minutes. The evaluation steps themselves, should take about 3 hours (excluding the Windows VM installation). Use these videos to help you get started and experience the Excalibur technology preview first-hand. Ideally, watch the videos in their original order and do not skip steps.

Once you are done watching, here are some additional resources to help you conduct a more thorough evaluation.
