As an indication of the growth in mobile ecommerce, eBay recently reported that the company is on pace to double their mobile gross merchandise volume in 2012, up from $5 billion a year ago.

No surprise – the recently released Citrix ByteMobile’s Q4 2012 Analytics report found that the eBay app made the Top 10 Volume producing apps for iOS smartphones and tablets. For the full report, click here.

Expect this trend to increase – Juniper Research also recently forecast the number of consumers purchasing physical goods remotely via mobile device is poised to increase by roughly 50 percent, from 393 million in 2012 to 580 million in 2014. (PayPal Here enables small businesses and other users to process credit and debit transactions by swiping cards through a triangle-shaped dongle that attaches to their smartphone or tablet.)
