With the release of our App Orchestration technology in the Citrix Cloud Provider Pack, we started our cloud journey in helping our Service Providers build desktop and application clouds. And with today’s announcement of Project Merlin Technology Preview, we are extending our leadership to enable all our customers, Enterprises & Service Providers, to build private, hybrid and public desktop clouds. Whether you are delivering a “finished goods” desktop as a service or providing desktop infrastructure as a service, Project Merlin provides the complete stack to build both your VDI and Hosted Shared cloud desktop and application offerings

This groundbreaking new capability automates the design, configuration, deployment and lifecycle maintenance of Windows apps and desktops. It provides a single cloud management layer for Enterprise IT and Service Providers to manage multiple tenants/multiple departments, multiple farms, multiple products and multiple sites. Orchestration is a key requirement to build a desktop cloud and to attain cloud-scale and cloud economics.

From a single interface, cloud provider admins can define service offerings consisting of the workspace, network configuration, and isolation requirements and have the orchestration engine complete the deployment – hands free. As users subscribe to the service offerings, orchestration engine will automatically bring up the desktop infrastructure and workload machines to dynamically create and deliver hosted desktops and applications. When it comes time to update apps or desktop images, the admin simply points to the new image, and the app orchestration engine handles draining servers and migrating subscribers without manual intervention.

No more spreadsheets and complex tools to track your tenants and the desktop infrastructure and service offerings assigned to them. Orchestration provides a multi-tenant view of all the service offerings being consumed by different tenants. And with the CloudPortal integration, Enterprise IT & Service Providers can offer self service, provisioning and billing/chargeback functionality for the desktop and app offerings delivered from their private or public clouds.

For the past 2 years, we have have been working with Service Providers and Enterprise customers to help them transition to the Cloud. It is very exciting to see all our technologies come together under Project Avalon to offer a complete solution to enable our customers to build and deliver desktop clouds.
