In its report of second-quarter 2012 financial results, Deutsche Telekom showed a 19% increase in mobile data revenue to €484 million. This was 29% of ARPU (average revenue per user), up from 24% for the same quarter a year earlier. In the company’s European segment, smartphones now account for 60% of all devices sold, up from 43% a year ago. This helped drive mobile data revenue up by 21% from last year.
Vodafone Group reported a similar trend, with mobile data revenue growth of 17% year over year to £1.6 billion. This accounted for 16% of group service revenue in the three months ended June 30. Vodafone’s mobile internet revenue in Europe grew by 47%, as smartphones became increasingly ubiquitous.
