We are blazing the trail on our way to Spain with a new update release of XenClient Enterprise 4.1.2.
There are some great improvements and updates that we have added while we continue development of the next release, to be revealed at Synergy Barcelona.
VM Network Isolation with VLAN Policy Support
This technical preview feature provides the ability to isolate VMs from each other by segmenting the networks to which the different VMs connect to, by means of VLANs (virtual local area networks).
An example of a key use case is one that involves the use of two or more VMs on a physical system and the requirement to isolate/segment the network to which a VM has to be connected to for specific purposes, such as PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards) compliance requirements.
A single VLAN tag can be used for a VM’s external network. The result is a single active network that the VM will be connected to when it is in bridged network mode. The VLAN policies can be applied to XenClient-powered desktops/laptops from the Synchronizer, which is the management server backend.
The support for VLAN policies is an enhanced network segmentation feature, above the default secure communications functionality that is already provided by the XenClient Engine’s encrypted SSL communications. Look for another post soon with more details regarding the VLAN feature in XenClient.
Enhanced Active Directory Support
XenClient Enterprise’s enhanced support for AD now includes support for non-alphanumeric characters in Organizational Unit (OU) names. OU names with special characters such as “/” are now supported.
Support enhancements also include the truncation of AD hierarchy to hide full Domain Names (DNs) when an OU filter is being applied.
Rollup Reserve Space for Backup and VM Versioning
The Rollup Reserve Space feature ensures adequate disk storage space is made available for backup and VM version rollups on the Synchronizer.
Simplified Software Evaluation Experience
The software evaluation process has been streamlined with no license key required for up to 10 users. Evaluators will be able to quickly set up an evaluation environment without any initial interruptions to realize a successful trial.
In addition to the list above, XenClient Enterprise 4.1.2 also includes a variety of performance and usability improvements.
Check it out
Before upgrading, make sure that the XenClient Enterprise Engine and Synchronizer are both on the same latest version 4.1. After upgrading to the same version, republish all the VMs.
