In a shocking recent news article, VMware has admitted that vSphere is not the only hypervisor.  Buried under the guise of adding to their cloud portfolio with a recent acquisition, VMware has shown their hand and admitted failure. Not only do they concede that hybrid cloud means something more than connecting to remote vCloud Director based clouds (there are other clouds?), it may mean connecting to clouds that don’t even use vSphere or vCenter (oh the horror!)  Can this be?

In all seriousness, it remains to be seen what they will productize and if they will support connecting to or managing clouds without at least five v(insertproductname) things in them.  We are flattered that they have decided to dip their toe into the agnostic and open strategy that has won Citrix so much share in the cloud and welcome the competition.
