It’s not long now until Cisco Live! and we’re excited to be one of the main sponsors again this year. I’m looking forward to the keynotes and presentations as well as meeting customers to discuss what’s really going on in the workspace. It’s always interesting to pose the question ‘How are you preparing for the next generation workspace?’ We see that as organizations move towards highly collaborative multimedia environments, they are turning to strategic partners such as Cisco and Citrix.

As I prepare to fly to London, I’ve been thinking about the strong alliance we have with Cisco as its go-to-partner for desktop virtualization. What does it really means to both companies and our customers?

Cisco Desktop Virtualization Solution with Citrix XenDesktop was the starting point of the relationship that came about due to Cisco customer demand for XenDesktop on the Cisco USC platform. With immediate benefits of density, memory, cooling and service profiles, we all then realised that the alliance could and should go deeper than just areas within the data center.

So, Cisco and Citrix committed to delivering the next generation virtual workspace by unifying desktops, voice and video. To get there, we signed a five-year strategic agreement to further enhance our data center solutions, while also innovating in the areas of networking, collaboration and cloud computing.

We’ve had a number of successes since then, not least the optimization of the Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) for Citrix XenDesktop. This is so important for organizations planning for agile, collaborative and mobile workstyles in a rich media environment. In addition, we have strengthened our commitment to cloud computing, and are helping customers build private clouds and benefitting from the integration of Citrix CloudStack.

In essence, our alliance is helping enterprises easily and cost-effectively deploy virtual desktops to millions of end-user devices. There has been a positive reception to the formalized agreement and excellent momentum with customers and partners.

So, at Cisco Live! we will showcase a number of demos that highlight our joint technology at stand E69/72:

  • Demonstrating Receiver on the Cisco Cius, Cisco VXC2100 and VXC2200 thin clients, integrated with Cisco IP phones, Cisco Unified Call Manager and Cisco Unified Personal Communicator
  • Provided via Citrix XenDesktop will be a desktop and/or apps from one of the above objects, along with an iPad, MacBook, or PC, etc. to a desktop that provides the standard office apps, as well as, the Cisco “virtual presence” software
  • Show how Cisco Unified Personal Communicator allows for control of Cisco IP phones, video webcams, microphone and audio integration
  • Finally, smooth roaming the whole virtual desktop/presence from phone (VXC2100) to Cius, to PC etc

Check out this video of our joint vision and how we’re creating the next-generation workspace.

So, I think that Cisco Live! is going to be particularly exciting this year.  Enjoy the show and I hope to meet you all there!
