Tech Industry Recommendations for Gov’t Adoption of Cloud Computing Released Today!

As a Commissioner with theTechAmerica Foundation’s Commission on the Leadership Opportunity in U.S. Deployment of the Cloud (CLOUD2), I’m pleased to announce that the CLOUD2 report outlining our recommendations to the Obama administration was finally released today!
For the last three months, the Commission has been working to produce guidance for both public and private-sector use of cloud technologies and the adoption of cloud business models.  Industry and academic leaders met with government stakeholders that included the US Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST), Congressional members, and the Office of the President.  The goal was to offer suggestions for the most suitable means of increasing U.S. innovation through the use of cloud strategies, while optimizing services and costs.  The results of this three-month appointment were published today and were presented directly to a government team that included Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra.
Citrix took a very active role in the development of CLOUD2 guidance, through providing insights, delivering guidance, participating in numerous development meetings and in reviewing and editing recommendations.  I’d like to thank David Smith, chief technology officer, U.S. public sector division, for his service as Deputy on the Commission.
I applaud TechAmerica for having the foresight to assemble this esteemed group of commissioners and deputies, for ensuring the necessary visibility with government stakeholders, and for the leadership provided in successfully managing this lofty effort! I anticipate that the CLOUD2 recommendations will be considered immediately in scoping Federal information technology and the buyer’s guide will streamline the upcoming wave of computing services procurement.
