So. What are you doing 9 AM Friday morning on May 27th? Me? I’ll be on stage at Citrix Synergy in San Francisco, talking about the new image management functionality of Provisioning Services Project Merrimack.

I know what you are thinking. “9 AM? That’s kind of early, especially after the Thursday evening gala event, featuring Grammy award winning artists Train.” And…you’re right. It is early. So I’m going to give you an out.

You don’t have to go.

That’s right. You heard it from me. You do not have to go to “SYN204 – Automate server and client image management with Citrix Provisioning Services.” Sleep in. Catch up on some email. Take an early flight home. Maybe take a trolley ride and see some of San Francisco’s many beautiful sights. I’m telling you now. It’s OK. I won’t take it personally.

Because, when you think about it, you really don’t need to know how the new integrated version management feature simplifies single image management for your XenApp or XenDesktop farm, allowing you to easily move versions through build, test, and production phases, while at the same further reducing vDisk storage requirements.

And you don’t need to know how you can use the new vDisk update service to automate vDisk updates using tools like Microsoft WSUS and SCCM, allowing you to schedule customizable, zero touch updates of your server and desktop images.

And you certainly don’t need to know how the new support for replicated vDisk storage will enable you to safely and effectively centrally manage a set of vDisk images while replicating them across multiple servers or datacenters.

You don’t need to know any of this. You can keep doing things they way you do today. You can continue copying vDisks every time you patch. You can continue manually patching them. You can continue using expensive centralized storage for your vDisks. You don’t have to save any of that time or money using the upcoming features of Provisioning Services. It’s fine. Life will go on and your systems will probably continue to run just fine.

But then again, maybe you do want image management to be easier. Maybe there other things you’d like to spend your IT budget on besides storage. And maybe, just maybe, you’d like to spend your nights and weekends doing something besides manually patching machines or images.

And if that’s the case, maybe you should go.

So. What are you doing 9 AM Friday morning on May 27th? Me? I’ll be on stage at Citrix Synergy in San Francisco, talking about the new image management functionality of Provisioning Services Project Merrimack at session SYN204.

I hope you’ll join me.
